He came out in the second lull of light agaiu. hnt though he nut up a great rally, Tong put him down three times at intervals, the referee stopping the fight well en m the second round.' The first appearance of the Gisborne light-heavyweight, (.!• Rood. 12.5, in a match with L. Dennett, 11. U) Opotiki. was greeted with keen interest, and the first round more than justified the enthusiastic greeting offered l>v the crowd. Dennett a tough and very finely-conditioned lad. went into the exchanges willingly, and for a time held Ids own. By the end of the first round, however, lie was looking a bit hustled hv the impetuous Maori's attacks.' . The second saw Reed miss chances to use his good straight left, and in the business. <>f swinging and hooking he had no advantage' over the Opotiki hoy. In the third. Dennett was carrying the attack to Reed, and wearing him down quickly when the final gong wont. Dennett got the decision, on points, to- the keen disappointment of a large share of the audience.

Winner of one hard bout during the day. L. Dennett, 11.10, faced another hard man in ]>. Anderson, 12.0, Southland. The southerner kept, coming in, and he demonstrated a solid punch and fair timing. Heavy punishment took its toll of Dennett,, and lie was on the receiving end of most of the exchanges in the third round, the Southlancler being a good • winner. Dennett’s display was good, considering his earlier effort and the capability of liis two opponents. ">
