ANNUAL SHOOT

RECORD ENTRIES

Excellent shooting was witnessed at the, Opotiki Rod and Gun Club's shoot held at the club’s grounds at Htikuwai, numbers of visiting shooters-from Gisborne, Rotorua, Tirau, Tuuranga, To Teko, ‘Whakatane. and Taneatuataking part. '

Mr Jack Ross, a popular member of the Opotiki Club was success! ul in winning Mr J. O’Sullivan’s trophy lor the aggregate on the day’s shoot, .with 33. breaks out of 36. Messrs H. Tlrmstrong and 1 F. Harris were second with 28 birds each, while Mr A. o. Young secured 27 birds. Great interest was displayed throughout the day by the public, over 101) cars being on the gi'ound. The weather made ■ shooting conditions ideal, and the committee worked right throughout the day without a break, putting through what must have been a record programme, considering the number of competitors. Time did not permit of the final event to be shot off.

A pleasing feature of the day’s sport was the sound working of the automatic trap reumtiy acquired by the club. This should promote further interest among members and result in more regular meetings being heldAfter the last event, Mr J. MeCaldon, president of the'club, called on the club’s patron, Mr G. S. Moody, to present the very fine collection of trophies. Following are the results:.. Eye-opener, 6 birds, attracted 41 en-tries.-—A. \V. Parkinson, Jack Ross, Jim Ross, Hi Armstrong, A. J. Brown, W. Butler, R.\ Knight, R- Butler shot the possible and divided the stake.

Maiden Handicap, 3 Birds, 17 entries G. Edwards, J. A. Parkinson jnr., T. Butler and Ei. Thompson shot the possible. Shoot-off for trophies: G. Edwards (T- Black’s (Otara) Trophy) 1, J. A. Parkinson (Mr A. (Young’s Trophy) 2, T. Butler (Mr G. Dawson’s Trophy), E. Thompson (Harold Turner Trophy). Yankee Sweepstake of 1G Birds, 35 entries F. Joblin, R. Gavanagh, and A. J- Brown, shot the possible and divided the stake. 111 the shoot-off, F. Joblin, first, took .Mr C. Kaye’s trophy, R. Gavanagh, second, took Mr A. Young’s trophy. The Harold Jones Memorial cup, of 10 birds, attracted a fine field of 37 entries. J. A. Parkinson 311 r., J. Plamus and T- Black shot the possible. In the shoot-off J. A. Parkinson won the cup and miniature on the 14th. bird. J. Plamus was second taking G. S. Moody’s trophy. T. Black was third. winning Sid. Anderson’s trophy. ,

Goodwill Handicap Swee.astake of £2O, 15 Birds, 25 entries —Some excellent ponormances were witnessed in this event- F. Joblin, A. J. Brown. R. Cavanagh and A. W. Parkinson shot the possible and divided. In the slioot-off for F. W. Oswald’s trophy, F. Joblin eventually won, shooting his 20th. bird off 23 yards. A. J. Brown was second, taking C. Kaye’s trophy, while R- CWanagh was third, winning A. Young’s trophy. Black and White Cup of 10 birds, 25 entries. —A. J. Brown, AY. Seinmens, and R. Knight shot the possible and divided. A. J. Brown won the cup and miniature presented by Jim ‘Whitfield. In the shoot-off AY. Seinmens was second, winning ALessrs Hamill Bros-’ trophy and R. Knight took .V. Young’s trophy.
