ARRIVAL OF POWER SHOVELS SPEEDING! UP WORK Considerable interest was shown in the unloading of the power shovels which arrived •at the Opotiki wharf to-day by the ni.v. Waiotalii. The machines and parts were loaded on to a number of lorries which took the shovels down the coast to be unloaded at the Alaraenui hill. • The shovels will be the first mechanical machines of this description to be used on read work in the Opotikji. County. A big programme of road improvements is being undertaken on the East Coast highway during the next 12 months and the power shovels will speed up the work considerably. A big Diesel grader is at present on the road where it has been doing good work.

The two power shovels are of Priestman manufacture and are driven hy Diesel engines. The machines will be finally assembled at Maraenui. .
