BIG PROGRAMME AHEAD

A big programme is ahead for the Public Works Department on the East Coast main highway, and with the arrival of two power shovels by ■ boat tbis week, work will lie expedited considerably. A special the Motu, will bring the shovels from Auckland, and it is expected that both the Motu and the Waiotahi will arrive in Opotiki this week. The Motu is equipped with the necessary apparatus to lift the heavy machinery. The building of bridges on the Coast- is a very difficult job and the ' Raukokore river-bridge has been held up considerably on account of unfavourable weather. Ten more spans el this bridge still remain to be com- •’ pletod. Pile driving apparatus for the Keren river bridge was taken to the site of the bridge during the weekend and it is expected that a start will be made shortly on this bridge.
