Heavy Sea Running. A heavy sea was running in the Bay of Plenty yesterday morning hut moderated later in the day. A strong north-easterly during last . night again caused a heavy swell and today heavy seas have again been pounding along the coast. Stock Figures. The statistics supplied in the annual railways statement show 1 that the total number of cattle and calves railed from the Tnuranga. Te Puke. Ed gee um be and' Taneatua stations was 91,949, while the number of sheep and pigs was 253,792. The number of sheep railed from Taneatua was very much below the estimate at the beginning of the year when it was stated that 350,0C0 sheep would be railed. Separate figures are not given in the statement but tlieisheep and pigs railed from Taneatua station'only totalled 76,905. Hecivy Rain in District. Heavy rain fell .in the Opotiki distric during the week-end-, the total for the 48 hours ending at 9 a.m. this morning being 2.17 inches. 29 points falling on the 28th. and 168 points on the 29th. The Opotiki rivers have not risen very high as the rain was fairly evenly spread over the two days with no heavy downpours.

Maori ResearchIn the course of a visit to EastCoast districts to carry out research work into present day problems of the Maori people, Professor H. Bielshaw, Auckland, accompanied by Mr H. AY. Larsen, lecturer in economics at Canterbury College, and Air C. S. Belshaw jnr.. arrived in Gisborne last week-end from Opotiki. The work on widen they were engaged was instituted hv the Institute of Pacific Relations. The party commenced its tour in the North Auckland district, where it spent 10 days, and lias since visited various parts of the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty districts. The Treaty was also signed at Torero on June 11th. and 14th. and, at Te Kalia on June 14. Six Legged Lamb. A freak Southdown-Romnoy cross lamb, one of twins born on the farm of Mr R. Green, of Tainaliere, a fortnight ago. is reported to bo healthy and doing well. The lamb has six legs, two of which are growing off the last ribs. Although they are slightly short and the animal lias no control over them, they are growing- in proportion to the rest of its body. The second twin died 24 hours after it was born. Recently Messrs Bygrave and Aislahie killed a lamb born on their Te Arolia AYest property, with a single eye in the centre of its forehead, and a mouth which extended hack to its cars. Earthquake Aftermath. Said to he an aftermath of the Aiurchison earthquake of 1929, slight earth tremors' are still being felt in the high country of the Takaka district. AYorkmen engaged in the construction of the Cobb River electricity plant say. that they still feel these tromors at- more or less regular intervals. They are not severe in any way, but easily recognised as earthmovements. Of course, they are too slight to do any damage or alarm anyone. . ’ Near the site of the works are great slips on the hillside which are said to have been caused bv the Murchison, earthquake.
