THE NATIONAL PARTY MATA W AI MEETIN G A meeting of the Matawai branch of the National Party was held on Saturday evening, Air J. Hope, presiding' over a good attendance. A report on the year’s activities was read by the chairman, and also reports by, the delegates, Altessrs J. Davenport and G. Donovan, of the Gisborne and Opotiki electoral meetings. Mrs C. A'. Smith, secretary of the women’s committee,, said that much assistance had been rendered by enthusiastic members in the campaign. The vicepresident, All's AA. A. Wright, t also spoke about the work. A vote of condolence was passed with Air F. AA'. J. Tombleson in the death of his father. The election of officers resulted in All* J. Hope being returned as chairman, Air J. Davenport as secretary, and a strong eommitttee of men. Air F. AA'. J. Tombleson was elected electoral delegate and Air G. O. Donovan branch delegate. Supper was served bv the women’s committee, which received a hearty vote of thanks. AIR. SULLIVAN’S TOUR Continuing Ins tour of the electorate*, Air AY. Sullivan, National .candidate* for the Bay of Plenty seat, addressee! a meeting of about 13U electors in AYaeronga-n-hika on AA'ednesday night. All* Sullivan spoke on the lines of his previous addresses, emphasising the chief issues on which the coming election will be fought. At the conclusion of his address he answered a number of questions and, on the motion of Air T. O. Cummings, a veito of thanks was accorded by acclamation.
