VALEDICTORY
MR. & AIHS ALAN ABBOT
Evidence of the high esteem in which they have been held by their many friends during their residence in Kutaroro over a period ot many yea is. was given by the large gathering which attended the social evening tendered to Mr and Airs Alan Abbot and family. The function was held in the Waiotahi Hall, the gathering including friends from Opotiki, Kutaieie. Waiotahi, Nukuhou and Waimana. Mr and Mrs Abbot and family have been popular residents of Kutarcie and news of their impending departiiie to Woodlands was received with considerable regret bv their nian\ friends. The evening was spent in dancing interspersed by vocal selections by Mrs T. W. Burke and Air Malcolm Burke. Airs White and Mrs Hurke were the accompanists. A popular programme of music was played h.v the Melody Masters’ Orchestra and Al;r A. Ward law ably carried out tin' duties ol Al. C. Aliss Amleison and Air Clements and Airs Barrel I and Mr Parkinson were the successful
dancers, in the novelty competitions. Popular extras were obligingly played I»v Mr A. Ward law.
A dainty home-made supper Vas enjoyed during which Mr A. llufF, on heiiait of the residents of the district, presented Airs Ahl.ot with a handsome chiming clock and ,M'r Abbot with a pocket wallet containing bank-notes. Mr Huff spoke of the regret which all ielt at the impending departure ol their guests of honour and expressed the hope that they would he happy ami success!Hl in their new home.
Eulogistic speeches were also made |, v Messrs Mitchell. '!•). P- Woolfield, C : . Wliite and R. Looney. Mr Abbot feelingly responded, thanking those present for their handsome gilts, his response was greeted with the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” and dancing was resumed until the early hours.
