NEW CHURCH ORGAN

DEDICATION , ON SUNDAY ST. JOHN’S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Purchased as a special Diamond Jubilee offering, a new Everett Orga-t-ron electric, organ will be dedicated at the evening service in St. John’s Presbyterian Church on Sunday next. Rev. A. C. Hampton Avill dedicate the organ after the scripture reading following the first hymn, while the organist will be Airs A. H. Hillord. Revs. R. Morgan and I>. N. AlaeDiarmid will be associated and will assist in the dedication. A special visit for the occasion has been made by Rev. P. Mac Diarmid, who will also conduct the morning service.

It was not originally intended to dedicate the organ until the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in September, but in view of the impending departure of the organist, Mrs Hilford, the dedication will take place next Sunday to allow Airs Hilford the honour of playing the organ for that occasion.

The organ is a beautiful instrument, having a sound chamber situated in the front of the pliurch and another for echo effects at the rear of the building. Three out of the four “tone families”, namely dispasan, flute and string are contained in the instrument. Even though the reed tone lias been omitted, the ensemble of this model is rich toned, bold aiul sonorous. containing the grandeur and majestic dignity so characteristic of the pipe organ. Dozens of effects are possible and the organ is fitted with tremolo and echo coupler tablets.

The organ has been toned down to suit the size of the building but could be used in a much larger church. AYith a little additional expenditure the organ could be fitted with chimes which could he heard all over the town. The Diamond Jubilee- Committee which was responsible for acquiring this organ as a special jubilee offering is to be congratulated upon being able to purchase this organ which will be the envy of many larger towns.
