Hurt (chairman),-« W. A. Sumner, I). Spence (Whakatane), W. A. Gault, S. Maxwell, Hurrctt (Opotiki) and Air J. D. Dicker (engineer-manager) Mr G. A. Hathaway (secretary). The minutes of the previous . meeting were read and confirmed. Accounts as presented were passed for payment. i The Whakatane Paper Mills Company wrote asking for extended credit facilities. Mr; Dicker suggested that the hoard ask for further particulars •and this was agreed to. It was stated that a number of similar requests lin'd been received by other firms and local bodies. A letter was received from the Hon. R. Semple approved of the chairman’s •Jionora rium. Broadcasts Interrupted!. A letter was received from a Taneatua resident protesting against the •continual shut-downs on Sunday afternoons and tlu> resultant interruptions to the wireless broadcasts. —

It was decided to" write and' explain the reason for the"'frequent shut-downs. Mr Dicker -referred to the.‘charges for power in shops and stores for freezers and other appliances. He considered that varying charge's would be too complicated and suggested that the commercial tariff lie adopted in such eases.—The hoard agreed to this suggestion.

ENGINEER-MANAGER’S REPORT The engineer-manager, Air J. D. Dicker, submitted the _ following report for the’month of July:— 7 Line Ejection: 63 chains 11,000 volt line. 4 ro.ute chains 400 volt on 11,000 volt lines, 8.76 route chains 4GO volt lines, 2 sub. structures and one 5 and' one 30' k.v.a. transformers erected. ~ Alanawalie; 65 poles erected during the month which completes the pole erection for the Alanawalie extension.;; A further 1.9 route mile’s of line] completed. ; j .Whakatane Borough Tie Line: This installation is now complete and in service. New Main Sub Switchgear: Messrs Reyrolle and Co. have finalised the erection of the new switchgear in Waiotahi and Edgocumbe sub-sta-tions. Also the overhaul and renew’-

als required on, the existing switchgear. ' ’ .

The capacity of the board’s, equipment installed in the above stations is now capable of handling the normal • increase in load for a . number of yegvs. ••

Consumers’ Service Lines: 12 new service lines amounting to 89.33 route chains of line erected, one of 3.0 chains dismantled, and one of 7 chains dismantled and re-erected.

Six consumers service lines overhauled and repaired. The annual earth testing in the Opotiki area has been completed. Consumers Connected to 31st. July, -1938-(during the past month) : Ranges 5 k.w. and over, 4 new connections, 0 reconnections, 1 disconnection, 559 total to date, 525 corresponding period 1937. Ranges 2 k.w. up to 5 k.w. 0,0, 0, 72, 64. Total ranges, 4,. 0,1, 631, 589. Motors (excluding milking and hulk supply) 1,0, 0, 149, 123. Shops and offices, 0,0, 0, 231, 226. Houses, 10, 6,8, 1614, 1516. Pumps, 5,2, 0, 395, 353. Dairy water heaters 3,3, 5, 532, 527. Domestic water heaters, 10,-1, 1,1, 631, 577. Total waterheaters 13, 4, 6, 1163, 1104. Milking plants, 2,6, 3, 631, 611. Separator motors, ’3, 1, 3, 342, 323. Total consumers 9,6, 6, 1831, 1755. Total connected load k.w. 8327 k.w., 7887 k.w. Power Cost Analysis: A comparison schedule for the quarter ending 30th. June 1938 and the corresponding quarter of the previous year as follows (1937 figures in parenthesis): — Sale of electricity (£10,512 18s 7d) £11.090 15s 7d. Units sold (2,358,562) 2,624,583. Supply to Wliakfttane Borough: The agreement has been - finalised, signed by the borough, and is tabled for comi>letion by the Board at today’s meeting. On -the Ist. August the borough commenced to draw its whole power requirements from the board, and arrangements have been made with the P.W.J). to adjust the charges to the board on the new basis as from that date. In connection with the power analysis which showed a. number of small increases, Mr Dicker said that nearly all these were due to the power supply to Whakatane.
