Snow on Hills. Tliei snow which fell at Matawai on Sunday was still covering the hill-tops on Tuesday,' according to a Matawai correspondent. Trip Postponed. Owing to a number of the girls not being able to make the trip, the visit of the combined basketball team from Matawai and Korangi clubs to Opotilii, was, postponed. Cream Put Out^ As a result of a report published by another paper, it is understood that more than one farmer put his cream out on Wednesday morning to be collected for the Opotild factory. Pheasants’ Eggs. Sixteen replies to the Opotiki Rod and Gun Club’s advertisement asking people to: take pheasant eggs for rearing purposes, were received at the meeting on Wednesday night. The difficulty of rearing pheasants was mentioned and members were of the opinion that bantam hens were the best sitters. Cream Cartage. Commencing from next Monday, cream will he carted to the Opotiki .Dairy Factory every second day. Next week the days will be Monday. Wednesday and Friday, and the following week Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Mallard Duck. At the meeting of the Opotiki Rod and Gun Club, held on Wednesday night, a letter was received from Mr Keen, conservator of fish and game, stating that sittings of mallard duck eggs would be supplied to the Opotiki club if sufficient were obtainable. Members appreciated’ the offer. Emeregency Landing Ground. t At the monthly meeting of the Opotiki County Council to-day, a letter was received from the Public Works Department stating that' it proposed to close a portion of the existing public road at Motuhora, near the Pakihi block, in order to provide an emergency landing ground for planes. The council consented to the suggested deviation which ensured continuity of the road. Week-end Practice Shoot? The report, not published in the Opotiki • News, of a week-end practice shoot by the Opotiki Rod and Gun Club, in which the trying conditions caused by the strong wind were emphasised, caused considerable amusement at Wednesday night’s meeting of the club. Actually no such shoot was arranged or took place.

Junior Reps. on> Tour. The junior representatives will visin Rotorua, to-morrow to play a match for the Shalfoon Shield against Rotorua as a curtain-raiser to the Bay of Plenty-Waikato match. The bus will leave Bell’s shop at 8 a.m. sharp. The following players have been selected : —G. Tai, Tawliara, F. King, W. Moore, S. Fleming. L. Connor, D. Debreccny (capt.), Amokura, To Puna. J. Kurei, Broadley, Roach. Ranapia. Iv. do Montalk, Le Pine. Reserves : backs, K. Mihaere; forwards, McKay.

Bclliards Competition. The inter-brigade billiards competition betwwen the Opotiki and Wliakatane Fire Brigades was continued on Tuesday night, when the Whakatauc players visited Opotiki. The results of the games are as follows: —Burton and Booth (Opotiki) 50 in play, beat ’Morey and Hall (Whakatane) 16. Peagram and Shalfoon (Opotiki) 52 in play, beat Syme and Milos (Wliakatane) 45. Snooker: Burton and Boo'tli (Opotiki) 25 lost to Morey and Hall (Whakatane) 50. Peagram and Shalfoon (Opotiki) 40 beat Syme and Miles (Whakatane) 20.

Trout Fry. Although the Minister of Internal Affairs in his letter to the Opotiki Rod and Gun Club, refused to vary his previous decision not to supply a can of trout fry; the club was confident that fry could be obtained from other sources by diplomatic methods. The meeting on Wednesdap was of the opinion that tho Minister had been misinformed concerning the Waioeka river holding trout and that the river had never been properly stocked.

Power Shui-off. ■ The power will be cut off the whole of the Bay of Plenty Power Board’s area on’Sunday between the hours of 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Fire Brigade Competition. A competition between the Wliakatane aiid Opotiki. Fire Brigades will be held near the Wharf on Sunday at about 1.30 p.m. The competitions will prove very interesting to spectators. ■ Automatic Trap. When the Opotiki Rod and Gun Club’s automatic clay bird trap was being packed for delivery it was discovered by tlie merchants that the magic angle base which automatically selects angles was missing. This part, however, will be sent on at a later date, but Avill not arrive in time for the club’s shoot in September. It was decided at Wednesday night’s meeting of the club to write to the Rotorua! club asking for a loan of its magic angle base for that meeting. Calf Struck by Car. calf which was walking on the road in St. John Street yesterday was struck by a car and tossed in the air with considerable force. The car only slowedmp a little as it was about to pass the calf and the calf walked into the track of the car. The call lay on the road and after a hasty glance backwards tin; driver of the car drove on. After some, time the calf sat up on the roadway and after a further rest got stiffly to its feet and joined some cows being driven along the road. Gisborne’s Heavy Rainfall. For the 22 days on which rain fell in Gisborne last month the aerodrome meteorological station recorded 12.64 inches. This total is the highest for any mdnth of the year since 1924, and is virtually the second highest on record for July. The record rainfall in Gisborne for one month was in March, 1910, when 20.16 in. of rain was registered. It is a common occurrence for July to produce a large number of wet days, and, in fact, it holds thr3 record for any month of the year in Gisborne, 26 wet days being experienced in July, 1890.
