“WAIKIKI WHDMNG”
The hit trio of “Rhythm on the Range,” Bing Croisby, Bob Burns and Martha. Kaye, aided and abetted by Shirley Ross and a supporting cast of two hundred and fifty dancers, musicians and specialty performers, return to the De Luxe Theatre Saturday in another Paramount comedy hit, “Wnikikji Wedding.” “Waikiki Wedding” is a gay and robust comedy, garnished with splendid music, both instrumental and vocal, of the romance between a publicity agent and a contest winner, played respectively by Crosby and Miss Ross. Miss Ross wins a trip to Waikiki in a world-wide contest organised by Crosby to find a new pine-apple-recipe. She doesn’t find the place nearly as glamorous as she thought it was and prepares to leave. Realising this would ruin bis campaign, Crosby takes it upon himself to make Waikiki glamorous. This he does with a vengeance. He falls iu love with Miss Ross in the process and when she discovers that Crosby liad tricked her she is heartbroken. Then Crosby has to win her back all over again and the way in which he does this furnishes some genuine high comedy. A second romance between Burns and Miss Raye, also runs through the picture.
“Waikiki Wedding” was beautifully directed by Frank Tuttle. There is a native marriage ceremony in the picture which is one of the finest things ever captured by the camera. There is native music and a number of popular tunes. Several of these, “Blue Hawaii,” “Iu a Little Hula Heaven” and: “Okolehao,” are of the hit clgss and you’ll be whistling them. “HER, HUSBAND’S SECRETARY” With Jean Muir, Beverly Roberts and Warren Hull as the three points of a new. sort, of movie triangle, “Her Husband’s Secretary,” a First National melodrama, will be screened at the De Luxe Theatre Saturday.
Hull, naturally, is the husband, Miss Muir is the wife, and Miss Roberts, last seen as George Brent’s leading lady in “God’s Country and the Woman,” is the office who comes between them.
Unlike the usual triangle stories which are entirely of the “intellectual” type —wherein the characters solve the situation bv conversation, this one is. solved by a novel and thrilling clim-
“Her Husband’s Secretary” - is a fast-moving, lively film, with settings varying from modernistic offieps -to a camp in the Maine woods.
