Tlultquist, ALP., to the secretary of the Opotilci Rod and Guii Club (Mr G. L. Day):— I desire to again refer to the request made by the (J'potiki Rod and Gun Club to be supplied with a can of fry. The matter has been the subject of very, careful consideration, and on the question of lingerlings the Department is not prepared tpi embark uponi any alteration of policy on which there is no unanimity of reliable opinioii as t 0 the effect it is likply to have on the fisheries—the introduction 'of disease (of which the New Zealqnd waters are free) among fish which is having such a deleterious effect in other parts of the world. The Department is not satisfied that the breeding of fiiigerlings will have the result suggested by the Club, and will continue to stock the Pakihi and Te Wait! streams until more definite information is forthcoming.
