NINTH ANNUAL BALL
A BRILLIANT SUCCESS ART I STIC DECOB ATKINS MANY BEAFTIFFL FROCKS The Lyric Hall was the scene of great revelry on -Monday night, the occasion being the ninth annual hall of the O.D.H.S. Old Pupils’ Association. As the result of the work of a special committee in charge of _tho decorations, the hall was conipletly transformed, and presented an attractive setting for the many beautiful Crocks worn by the ladies. Nikau palms completely covered the walls, howls of cherry blossom being interspersed on stands between the scats. A stately nikau palm, which stoo.d in the centre ol the hall, was covered with dainty fairy lights which also interspersed the greenery about the walls. Streamers in various colours covered the ceiling from which baskets of beautiful Hewers were suspended. At the entrance, a huge umbrella covered with chrysanthemums hung from the ceiling. Colourful balloons, bung in flusters, added to
tlu- fairylike scene. Large replicas of the Old Pupils’ badge and the school motto were placed at intervals abonit the walls, and' a special feature of the decorations .was the caricatures ol the officers and members of the committee. which hung on the walls, of the ante-room and caused considerable amusemeut, so realistic were they. The Melody Masters’ Orchestra, which wits in attendance, played from the balcony which was also attractively arranged. Always largely attended, the function this year surpassed those ol previous years. r J hose in attendance included many visiters and dancers from all parts of the surrounding district. The energetic hand of workers which comprise committee must ha\c IT It amply rewarded for its efforts, not only from a financial point of view, but by the social success of the Junction, which achieves one of the aims of the association in servjng as a reunion of old pupils, together with the happy association of their inunj friends. During the supper interval, a popular item of the programme was the anpearanee of the* new Elcetiotouc Orchestra, which played a programme <>l bright dunce numbers. 'i he or-i-hestra d</ui|>rised i : 'hd Airs ’*• Alai.nix and 'Mr Mitchell, ‘ whose selections met with the favourable comment of all present. Gentlemen of the committee acted as AL.CV
A delicious supper was served at jhe Wattle Tearooms, where the tables were attractively arranged. At the request of the- dancers, dancing was continued until much later than the set time, this, alone giving evidence cl the outstanding .success of the hall which is recognised as one of the most popular social events of the year. The Grand March, which took place r at 0 p.m., presented a spectacular scene. It was led by the Association’s president. Air A.
