TO THE DITOR
LADIES’ REST AND PLUNKET ROOM Sir, —At a recent Borough Council meeting the subject of providing a suitable Ladies’ Rest and Phmket Room received consideration and on the recommendation of Councillor Short who seems to dominate the Council, it was decided that representatives of sundry, ladies’ associations and the County Council lie invited to a conference.
Now 1 am a keen supporter of a suitable rest and Rlunket room being provided but I fail to see what good object will be served by a conference with other than the Borough and County Councils, as it is these two local bodies who will probably havd t 0 find the money and they are the official representatives of the ratepayers. Besides, plans and specifications of suitable buildings were obtained from neighbouring districts some years ago, and the matter now seems mainly one of finance. I foresee difficulties and delay if outside Leagues or Associations are: admitted to a conference at this stage. Councillor Short ought to appreciate this point though possibly it has escaped his notice, perhaps the white elephant building scheme obsession which was turned down may have blurred his foresight temporarily.
