The Bible Class members of St. John’s Presbyterian .Church will give a,n unusual entertainment on Wednesday next, when a banquet- and mock court will be held in St. John’s Hall. Salvation Army. A variety programme and hot- pasty supper will be given at the Salvation Army barracks on Monday night, commencing at 7.30 p.m. Pakihf Bridge. Tenders are being called by the Opotiki Comity Council for the supply of materials and construction, of a bridge over the Pakibi Stream consisting of Two 40 feet spans, steel joists with hardwood decking. H.S. Team for 'Gisborne. The Qpotiki District High School’s Rugby team is to play the Gisborne High School’s second fifteen in Gisborne an July 30. Power Supply. The supply of electric power will be cut off the whole of the Bay of Plenty Power Board’s area on Sunday, between the hours of 1.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. High Tide. Another exceptionally high tide was experienced in the Opotiki rivers yesterday at midday. Almost the whole of Volkner Island was under water. The tide to-day was quite normal. ! Opotiki Rep. TeatiK The Opotiki senior representatives who will travel to Te Puke on Saturday (to-morrow) to play a friendly game against Te Puke, will assemble outside Bell’s shop. The Inis conveying the team will leave at 9 a.m. sharp. 'll lose unable to travel are asked to notify the secretary as soon as possible. Halfpenny Stamp Machine. Arrangements are being made for the installation of a halfpenny stamp machine at the entrance of the Gisborne Post Office to meet the needs of people wishing to send letters by the Empire air mail network from July 20. The installation of the machine has been necessitated by the l£d rate for letters weighing soz. The new machine. which has arrived in Gisborne, is of the same type as the penny stamp machines and is also operated with a penny. Instead of one stamp being ejected, two half-penny stamps came from the mechanism set- in operation by a penny.
Record Deer Head. The claim of a New Plymouth doer stalker, NTp G. G. Atkinson, of having created a New Zealand record hy capturing an 18-point head has been disputed by residents of AA'airoa, who recall that in 192 U a head of 23 points was brought home from the Alaliia Peninsula by Sergeant H. C. I>. "Wade, now a senior-sergeant in the force. Some claimed that the new 18-pointer was the greatest taken since the celebrated Maritzlmrg head of 1538. Reward Offered. Anxious to dispel rumours that its officials have been responsible for a “whispering campaign.” or have sought to secure members by misrepresentation or intimidation, the executive o! the Gisborne branch of the National Party is advertising a reward for the first person who establishes proof of recent allegations made in Parliament by Air D. G£;Hu!tquist, M.P., arrived in Gisborne-on Tuesday from Wellington, and was joined by Airs' Hultquist. who came through from Whakatane to attend with him the Labour Party’s dance in Te Karalta on Tuesday evening. r J’he feature of the ' entertainment was the coronation of the successful candidate in a queen carnival conducted to raise funds for the Labour Party’s election campaign. Afr Hultquist left Gisborne on AVednesday by air; on his return to Wellington, and Af.rs Hultquist returned to her home at AVhakatane.

The Weather. - The following weather forecast for the 24 horns commencing at 9 a.m. to-day was issued by the meteorological office: —The indications ere for moderate south-westerly winds gradually veering to north-westerly. Weather for the most, part fair to cloudy but scattered light rains probable. Temperatures cool. Seas moderate. General situation: Yesterday’s cyclonic depression lies to the east, of the North Island and a secondary depression appears to he forming in the Northern Tasman Sea.
