Tangible evidence of the high esteem m which they are held by their many mends in Opotiki, has been shew n by the round of parties at which Mr and Mrs A. H. Hilford and Mrs Grant have been the guests of honour prior to their impending departure for their new home at Alt. Ma.unganui, Tauranga. On Friday evening -Mr and Airs J. D. Clark invited some of the immediate friends of Mr and Mrs Hilford to their home when a particularly happy evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with games and music. The spacious breakfast room was cleared for dancing and games and competitions .were enjoyed in the living room. The sitting room was artistically decorated with Iceland poppies and colourful berries and these decoration* brightened the tables from which a delicious supper was served. Opportunity was taken by Mr Clark to present -Mas Hilford with a charming gilt and to extend to Mr and Mrs Hilford the best wishes of all present for tlioir future happiness and success. Mr Hillord responded-. A beautiful bouquet of violets was presented to Mrs Hilford by Mrs Clark. Musical honours greeted the presentations. Mrs Claris wore x black satin with black velvet coatee, to receive her guests, and Mrs Hilford was frocked in green chenille velvet. Before making their departure, all joined in singing “Auld Lang Syne”. •>:- -x » On Monday evening Air and Airs Hilford were again the guests of honour at a bright evening held at the residence of Air and Airs Clem Black. Otara. The rooms were decorated with colourful autumn flowers, and jolly time was spent with music, ganu.s and competitions, interspersed with vocal selections by Airs Black, Airs L. 1). Duff, and Mr H. S. Holmes. A pianoforte solo was contributed by Air Puryer. A very amusing musical competition was won by Airs Hilford and Mr Holmes and other competitions were won by Aliss Ale Lean and Mr J. Parkinson. Mr Black spoke with regret of the impending departure of the guests of honour and wished them continued success and happiness in their new sphere. Air Hilford responded, and a heartv vote of thanks was accorded the host and hostess. A very appetising supper was served by the hostess who was frocked in clover lace with velvet coatee, Airs Hilford choosing a 3 smart frock of black and shell pink. “For They are -Jolly Good Follows” and “Auld Lang Syne” were sung at the conclusion of the evening. **** a * * On Thursday afternoon a happy time was spent at Miss R. Thompson’s residence, when some forty friends of Airs Grant gathered to bid her farewell. Airs Grant will accompany Air and All’s Hilford when they depart forAheir new home. 'The rooms were picturesquely, arranged with pale pink H,eland poppies and rose pink camellias. autumn-tinted poppies' and brightly coloured berries. The afternoon was spent in social chatter, and a very interesting competition, arranged by Mrs AV. J. Thompson was won by Airs Debreceny. Charming shoulder sprays were presented tp Airs Grant and Airs Hillord by Mrs Debreceny.

Thompson asked her to accept, as a token of love and esteem, a charming hand-bag. Al!rs Grant suitably replied and all joined in Ajnging “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow”. . Aliss. Thompson wore an attractive frock of wine channelise with gold trimmings and, Mrs W. J. Thompson favoured bottle green. The guest of 'honour wore a black suit ahd All’s Hill’erd a navy blue suit. TGATOA , NEWS -t COAIING-OF-AGE DANCE From Our Own Correspondent. A most delightful evening was given histi Tuesday by Air and Airs T. Stott toi celebrate the coming-of-age of their son Trevor. The evening was spent dancing and a vocal solo was contributed by All’s Starky. Mr J. Alannix and Air R. Parkes supplied the dance music with several extras by Airs Starky. Afonte Carlos were won by. ATr and Airs R. Hustler and Alls Haskell and Air Starkey. A very dainty- slipper was served'. After supper. Air L. Walker took the opportunity of making the presentation! ot a Rolls Razor, to Trevor from his many friends ,in Toatea, wishing him health.wealth and prosperity. Trevor thanked all in a lew well chosen words, and dancing was continued to- the early hours. Among those present were : Air aiul Airs T. Stott, Irevor Stott, Rex Stott. Russell Stott. YOUNG FARMERS’ DANCE Although the attendance at the dance organised by tlie local \oung Farmers’ Club, was not large, the enthusiastic band of dancers who were present, spent a very jolly evening. The. function was held in the AA oodlands Hall, and a bright programme of popular dance numbers was supplied by the Alelodv Masters’ Orchestra. Air I. Grant carried put the duties of Af.C. in an efficient manner. Successful dancers in the novelty competitions were Aliss J- Powell and Air Ran and Aliss N. Wilson partnered by Air O. Jones. After a dainty supper had been enjoyed. dancing was continued until midnight.
