WEEK-END MILITARY CAMP
PAY OK PL.INTY TROOPS The Paengoroa, Awakeri and Opotiki Troops went into camp lor tile week-end at Uhope, ahctlt 20 men living present. including live Opotiki troopers. Many or the men were unable to get to the camp, mainly owing to being unable to secure the necessary leave. Lieut. Santon was the officer in charge of the camp, while. Sergt.-Alajor Bradley, of Tamanga, was the instructor. 'l’lie men went into camp on Friday night and broke t camp on Sunday night. Close defence 1 was the main object of the training and on Saturday morning the. men attacked an imaginary major raiding party. Night marching acrotss tin 1 lulls took place on Saturday night, the men using compasses for direction and each party, under, a sergeant. found their objectives. Night defence work was also practised against an imaginary attack, verey ilares being used in this work. Bayonet practice was given on Sunday morning and in addition map reading. There was also a Church parade. The training was concluded with ceremonial and funeral drill. The troopers were very satisfied with their training and got through a surprisingamount of work in such a short time. It was regretted that such a number of men were unable to attend thetraining and employers are. asked to , co-operate as much .as possible hjifW. future camp training. /
