Kelly, of Te Puke, visited Opotiki yesterday on their return from Hawke’s Bay in the course of their honeymoon tour. •a * * * * * * Miss Trixie Dolan, of Auckland, is spending a holiday in Opotiki. She is the guest of her sister, Mrs H. K. McCallicn, Waioeka Road. *- # * * *■ *■ * Recent advice from Mrs A. A. Hambly and Miss Tui Hambly states that they have spent six weeks in Devonshire and Cornwall before going to London. At the time, they were visiting Brighton and Hastings and will later tour the Continent. Mrs Hambly is a delegate to the Victoria League Conference held in London, and she and her daughter expect to be in Britain for a year or longer. OPOTIKI LABOUR PARTY SUCCESSFUL CARD EVENING Another very successful card-even-ing under the auspices of the Opotiki Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs F. Boyack on Thursday

evening. A most entertaining evening passed with Flag 500, the winners being Mrs Lammas, Miss D. Black, Mr A. Litchfield and Mr R. Black, consolation prizes going to Mrs K. Non th, Mrs H. Newth, Mrs D. ’lyric and Mrs H. Newth. Thei travelling prize was IVOII by Mr D. McMillan.

Mr T. Bodman carried out the duties of M.C. in his efficient manner, and after a dainty supper was served, he thanked Mr and Mrs Boyack, on

behalf of the Labour Party, for the use of their home. His remarks were heartily applauded. Among those present were :—Mesdames F. Boyack, D. Tyrie, B. Lammas, S. Maxwell, W. Honnessy, McCaldon, Bingham' T. G. Johnson, A. H, Dodgson, T. Palmer, J. Shaw, R. Black, G. Lysaght, W. Burton, D. C. Forbes (Kutarere), Delahunty (Whakatane), Logan (Kutarere), K. Newth, H. Newth, S. El. Webb, B. Russell, H. Parkinson., C. Tabb, J. O’Sullivan, A. G. Stevenson. Misses N. Johnson, W. Black, J. Webb, j. Cochrane, H. Gough. ST. MARY’S GYPSY DANCE VERY LARGE ATTENDANCE The Lyric Hail, on Wednesday night, presented a* bright scene, the occasion being a novel Gypsy Dance arranged by the social committee of St. Mary’s Church. There was the usual large attendance and a happy atmosphere, which usually follows the donning of fancy costumes, prevailed. The hall was artistically decorated for the occasion and the bright costumes worn by the dancers made the scene a picturesque one. The Melody Masters’ Orchestra supplied a popular programme of music and a popular extra was played by Miss D. Young.' Mr T. Hickey carried out the duties of M.C.

The competition for the best costumes resulted in Miss B. Crapp receiving first, prize and Miss G. "Withers, second. Mr G. Snell was the winner of tlie gentleman’s prize with Mr H. Parkinson second. Novelty dances were won by Miss P. Dane and Mr Abbot , and Miss V. Hutt and Mr J. Mihaere. Miss J. Cunningham, Mr B. Lowe. Mr S. Waterson and Mr T. McDonald were announced as the winners of various competitions.

Dancing was enjoyed until the' early hours with an interval for a dainty supper served by the ladies.
