New Members. —The following new members were proposed : Messrs U. Parkinson. Huia Hawkins. J*. Rumble and G. Maddren. ANNUAL REPORT The following annual report was presented by the president, Mr S. M. Jephson : In presenting my second annual report, it- is with pleasure that 1 can state the club has bad a most successful season, both from the viewpoint of membership and friendly visits by outside bowlers. From the bal-ance-sheet. members will see that the club is in a most satisfactory position and that our position may warrant a slight reduction in the subscription. But, on the other band, there are several improvements which require to he done to the grounds and it may be advisable to keep the subscription at the same figures and thus enable the . comnmittee to carry out these improvements. Two pennant matches were played during the season and the Citizens proved the winners on both occasions. I trust that more of these inter-club games will be arranged during the coming season with the Opotiki Club. During the season we were fortunate to receive visits from outside bowlers and these games were very much appreciated by our members. 1’ irstly the South Canterbury bowling tourists ■paid a friendly visit and this game proved! very interesting and a most friendly and aggreable afternoon was spent. Secondly we bad a visit from a number of Taranaki bowlers and a most enjoyable game was played in the true bowlers’ spirit. \\ e also received a surprise visit from a party of Poverty Bay bowlers who were unfortunately held up by the weather and these players took part in a competition for a lamb, generously donated by -Hr Jack Craig, to whom our thanks are due. I have also to thank Mr Clem. Black for a lamb, which provided trophies for a rinks competition. To Mr Frew, our superintendent. we owe a deep debt of gratitude. Mr Frew lias been a power of help to the club and I am afraid I am unable to express in words our thanks
to him for the interest he takes in the club and grounds. I wish to also thank the Ladies’ Croquet Club for their generous help during the season and can only express the wish that they have a good season. To the winners of the various competitions, I wish to extend my hearty congratulations and trust they will take the same interest during the coming season. I have also to congratulate the winners of the Inter-House Rinks Competition which was instituted this season. The idea, was that this should he run by both clubs on alternate years and any profit to go to the club which controls it and I trust that it be not allowed to drop. The usual annual visits of our club to AVlmkatane and Taneatua were very much enjoyed and 1 hope that these visits will continue in the same spirit. A team skipped by myself took part in the Forbes Cup played on the AVlmkatane green and 1 am pleased to say we were* successful in winning -this trophy, and as a mark of appreciation, 1. would ask these players to accept a small token from myself as a memento of a great game played in a wonderful club spirit. To the members of the commmittee we owe a lot and if is through their efforts that the club is in such a strong position, and, as a mark of appreciation of their yeomen sorvicp I should deem it a compliment to them to again elect them to the committee to carry on in the interests of the club for a further term. In conclusion gentlemen, I cannot
find words to express my thanks to all those members who have donated --trophies and have given tlieir services in such an unselfish way as to have made the season the success it has been and can only ask you all to give my successor tlio same support as you have given me during the -past two seasons.
