ST. STEtPHEN’S BRIDGE AFTERNOON, The first of a series of bridge afternoons organised by the members of the Ladies’ Guild, of St. Stephen’s Church, was Held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. There were seven tables of players, who enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon. The hall presented a very inviting scene with its bowls of colourful flowers, Mrs A. N. Davies was announced as the winner of tlie prize, and, at the conclusion of, play, a delicious afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the committee.

CARD-PARTY EVENING SUCCESSFUL WOODLANDS EVENING That the card parities held under the auspices of the Opotiki Branch of the /Labour Party are increasing in popularity was indicated on Thursday evening, when the fourth of a series was held at Mr and Mrs A. H. Dodgson’s home at Woodlands, there being a very large attendance. The winners were. Mrs J. Pennell, Mrs F. Boyack, Mr R. Black anil Mr D. McMillan; consolation prizes going to Alrsi S-. Maxwell, Miss K. Lambert, Mr Dodgson and Mr Lammas. The travelling prize was won by -Mrs A. G. Stevenson.

)X competition, for which the prize was a dressed duck, was won by Mrs T. Palmer.

At the conclusion of play, a dainty supper was served, after which Mr Bodman, who was acting as M.C., thanked Mr and Mrs Dodgson for the enjoyable evening and for the use of their home, this being carried by acclamation.

CITY FOOTBALL CLUB DANCE IX AID OF INJURED PLAYERS Members of the -City lootball Club were the organisers- of the dance which was held in the \\ oodlands Hall on Wednesday night. The function was arranged to raise funds to assist injured players and it was fitting; that such a worthy cause was supported by the large attendance it deserved. The popular Melody Masters’ Orchestra supplied the music and to them was attributed much of the success of the function. A popular extra was supplied by Miss D. .Young. r J he duties'v?,f M.C. were in the capable hands of Mr Tim Hickey, who, during an interval, thanked all present for the>f{.attendance, and all who had assisted in assufimg the success of the function. Novelty dances were won by Mrs R. ;\bbot and Mr I. Thompson and Miss N. Storer and Mr T. Burns. Competitions for two handsome cakes were won by Miss D. Davies and Mr J. Craig respectively.
