TAKING OVER The company Kiiown as Hast toast Airways, Limited, will cease to function after June JO and the r.ervice will be taken over by Union Airways. This announcement was made by the secretary-manager of the company, 31 r -CL Crawshaw. when lie wrote to the Napier Airport Board, thanking it lor the consideration that had always been given to the East Coast company. <
On April 16, 1935, the company started its schedule between Gisborne
and Napier and since then lias been gradually breaking down the barrier standing between the people and aeroplanes by making them more airminded. Despite many setbacks, it can be said that the company did well in pioneering the airways son ice between Gisborne, Napier and ialmeiston North. During the' floods the service piovided by t-lft* airways was the only connection Gisborne had with the south and partly on. account of the enormous traffic the planes carried at that time the two Dragons have been undergoing an extensive overhaul. 11l the meantime a De FlavdJand 36 has been on loan from Union Airways, which has enabled the company \o remain in operation. Since the changing of the timetable recently to give the public the benefit of ail earlv morning run from Gisborne to Palmerston North, the demand for seats has increased again to such an extent that bookings have to be made in advance.
