Fortnightly Pig Sale. The usual fortnightly pig sale will be held in the Opotiki Saleyards on Monday next, June 27th. Early Lambing. The first lambing of the season is reported from the farm ol Mr Candy, Kukumoa. Native Land Court. The Native .Land Court will commence to sit on August 2, #nrid the Puniti will close on July 1. Drama Festival. The Drama Festival which has been arranged by the Otara W omen’s Institute -will be presented in St. John’s Hall on Friday night next. Public Address. Headers are reminded of the public address to be given by Miss Hlsie Andrews, chairman of the N.Z Committee, of the Pan-Pacific Women’s Association. in the Parish Hall on Hiursday next. An Unlucky Player. Mr Hex. Jones, an Opotiki member of the Bay of Plenty touring Hug by team.* was very unfortunate in the first match against Southland. He tackled an opponent and a hand got caught in the player’s jersey with the result that he had his lingers broken. Penguin Found at Qhiwa. During a recent visit to Ohiwa, Mr L. Horne found a penguin on the sands. The bird, which, had died, stood about eighteen inches high. The penguin is a rare visitor to the Bay of Plenty, but some years ago several of the birds were seen at the Waiotahi beach for a number oi days. Measles in Opotiki. The measles epidemic is now spreading throughout the Opotiki district. The complaint is not yet very general and is of a-mild type. A native child who contracted the disease-and died is reported to have been very ill previously. Football to Start Earlier. As the result of complaints as to the late hour of the finish of the senior football matches in Opotiki, the management committee of the Opotiki Hugbv Union decided at its weekly meeting to alter the time of commencement of the senior games, the trouble has,been clue to members of the teams arriving . late on the grounds and a little bit of preliminary training before the match, oven when one of the teams is on the ground. Teams will now have to take the field whether they are short of players or not, a quarter of an hour earlier than previously. To assist in an early start, the juniors matches will all finish at a definite time, no allowance after this time being made for stoppages during the progress of the games. The junior matches will still commence at 2.45 p.m. sharp, hut must be completed at 2.40 p.m. The senior teams will take'the field five minutes after the junoir games ' finish, at 2.45 p.m.
