Waiotahi Dance, -. A dance will be held in the Waiotalii Hall tomight. Light Frost. A light frost was experienced in the Opotiki district this morning, following a steady wind throughout yesterday. . An Omission, In the list of officers for the Hospital Sunshine League, recently published, Mrs Hird’s name as a vice-presi-dent, was inadvertently omitted. Rugby Tour in Bay. The New Zealand Rugby Union has made a grant of £75 to The Central Hawke’s Bay Sub-Union for its tour of Bay of Plenty this season. National Party. -The annual meeting of members of the Opotiki Branch of the New Zealand National Party will be held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday next, June 21, commencing at 7.30 p.m. ' \ Power Shut-off. The Power Board advises consumers that tlie electric supply will be cut off over the whole of the Board’s area on Sunday, between the hours of 1.30 p.m. and '3,30 p.m.
Drama Evening. Those who attended the recent Drama Festival will look forward to .the Drama Evening arranged by the Otara AY omen’s Institute for Friday next. “Slow Curtain,” which was placed in the festival will be presented iu addition to “Beauty for Sale”, and “Cupid in /a Hat Shop”, and two mime, or plays without words,’ “Clementine.” ami “Hiding'Down From Bangor”. A Golf Accident. A peculiar accident happened on the Castled iff golf links „at 'Wanganui when a player was struck on the top of the- head by a ball driven from 200 yds. behind. The ball just grazed the top of the head, parting a thick crop of hair neatly, and coming to rest aliout 30yds. further on. The player who '"'as struck went down like a log. but fortunately was only "temporarily stunned, and was on his feet - again almost- immediately and able to continue play. Thei Weather. The following weather forecast for the 21 horn's commencing at 9 arm. to-day was issued by the meteorological office :—The indications are for iight and variable winds later tending northerly. ‘Weather fair to fine, temperatures rather milder but- some frosts at night. Seas slight to moderate. General situation; Pressure is relatively high over the North Island but falling in the south under the influence of a shallow hut- deepening depression which is advancing across the Tasman Sea.
School Operetta. Seldom is tlie second presentation of any performance in Opotiki attended with sueh success as the Princess Chrysanthemum operetta which was again staged at the Regent- Theatre on Thursday afternoon. -Many who were unable to attend the first presentation were present, while still more attended for the second time, resulting in the theatre again being filled. To the headmaster, -Air A. S. de .Montalk, great credit is due for the' production of such a very fine pefrormance, which, it is hoped, will merely ho the forerunner of other such entertainments. Credit is also reflected on all wlm assisted’ in the production, and especially on Air A. H. Hilford, as conductor. Gocd Cycling Performance. .Air 15. Yercoc who recently cycled to G! is bon re in an attempt to establish a record, made the journey in 9 hours 17 minutes. He was unfortunate in having o head wind, and, after leaving -Matawai, he rode in • continuous rain until lie-reached Gisborne. There, he was met by officials who were very enthusiastic about the young man’s venture and treated him cordially while he was in Gisborne. On his return next day. the trip was made in 9 hours 20 minutes. After passing Alatawai Air Yorc-oe began to experience trouble with the chain of his cycle and when four miles out from Opotiki. lie had to complete the journey on foot. Air Yercoe is confident- that the journey can be made in eight hours and intends to attempt this time in the'near future.
