BLASTING ACCIDENT

The accident occurred at about 8 o’clock yesterday morning,' at Torero, where Maxwell and a companion, H. Tamati, were engaged on a stumping contract. Maxwell went out to a stamp about 150 yards from the camp site to' ram sodium chlorate into a stump while Tamati prepared breaklast. A few minutes ' later Tamati heard an explosion, and then cries for help 'from Maxwell. Tamati ran over and found the injured man to Be suffering from a badly‘shattered hand, which he bound up to stop bleeding. Maxwell was conveyed to the Opotiki hospital by Tamati in a truck, and his condition is reported to lie not serious.
