/• : THE MONTHLY MEETING
Tlie monthly meeting of the Qpotifci Hospital Board was held in the County Chambers on Friday afternoon. Present: Messrs G, S. Moody, J. McDonnell, E. J. Baigent, O. D. Brown, G. J. Neilson, C. H. Fleming, S. Maxwell, S. Shalfoon; Dr H. J. Mail (medical superintendent), and Mr -J. X. Merry (secretary). The chair was taken by the secretary, Mr J. T. Mferry, who called for nominations for the position of chairman. Mr S. Shalfoon moved, and Mr C. D: Brown seconded, that'Mr G. J.. Neilson be appointed chairman. Mr J. McDonnell moved and Mr El. J. Baigent seconded, that Mr ”£>. Maxwell, be appointed to the position. A vote was taken resulting in Mr S. Mbxwell being appointed as chairman lor the ensuing two years. Before taking the chair, Mr Maxwell thanked the members of the board for the confidence they had shown in him and assured them that he would carry out-his duties impartially and to the best of’his ability. Mr G. J. Neilson assured Mr Maxwell of bis support. The position of chairman was not the easiest and without the co-operation of the other members it could be made A’ery difficult, but he felt sure that Mr Maxwell would have the co-operation of all members. The minutes of the previous meeting Tver© read and approved and outward correspondence dealt with. Mr Moody proosed, and Mr Neilson seconded, that the members of the Board should meet the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser, at + ho hospital at 3 p.in. -TJm-motion was carried and business was dealt with as briefly as possible tq enable members •to visit tliq hospital. Inward correspondence was dealt with and two tenders were received for additions and alterations at the hospital. After discussion Mr McDonnell moved and Air Moody seconded that the matter he dealt with,at the next meeting of the hoard, enabling new members at their visit to the hospital that day, to view the work to be done. The matron (Miss L. McLean) reported as follows Herewith admission and discharge sheets lor the
month of May. Hospital was fairly busy during the month. Nurse Goodali commenced duty as a. probationer on :sth. inst. and Nurse Adkins commenced duty, in the same capacity on 24th. inst. Sister Gifkens commenced duty on the sth. inst. Miss K. Newton commenced as cook on the 11th. inst. We have to thank the following.:—Mrs J. Armstrong, game; Mrs Manuel, fish; Mr J. Talbot, fish.; Mr 14. Pruifit, pork; 'Mr G. F. '.Joblin, apples. 1 would be glad of one dozen teaspoons, 6 tablespoons, 1. dozen tea knives. f The medical superintendent’s report stated that 25 patients had been admitted during the month, 23 discharged, 2 deaths, and 17 remained in hospital. •
It was moved, by Mr Baigent that copies of the By-laws and any rules in connection with the hospital, should be printed and supplied to members of the board. The motion was seconded by Mr G. S. Moody. Mr Neifson suggested that before going into the matter of printing, the by-laws should be revised. M'r Maxwell proposed that a meeting be called and the by-laws revised. Mr Fleming thought that a small committee could deal with the matter and moved that- the committee comprise the chairman, the secretary, and Mr Neilson, to consult with the superintendent, and these five members were appointed by the board. Accounts amounting to £352 10s 4d were passed for payment and further business was adjourned until the next meeting of the board.
