During the initial survey the dog was almost constantly engaged in carrying messages and waiting for replies from men at remote parts of the aerodrome site. A large envelope was used and this the dog would carry to any desired spot and after waiting for the reply to be placed in the envelope, again go wherever he was bidden. This clever dog can. roll up a, chain tape measure. He takes one end in his mouth and goes; up to the other end and then keeps cm doubling up the tape' until lie can carry the tape in liis mouth. “He pan do anything but. talk.’’ proudly stated an aerodrome worker to a “News” representative as the dog set off with the measure in his mouth to commence the day’s work with the 1 men. The senior match will be the first occasion on which the full team has been together this year, and judging by the good performance ■put up by the depleted rep. team against Motu, the Opotiki side should give a good account of• themselves. The team should be a fairly even one, with no really outstanding players.
