Your committee lias in reporting on a successful bowling season, and in placing before the members a comparatively satisfactory statement of accounts. The bank overdraft lias been reduced by £22s 3s 9d and the assets over liabilities shows an, improvement of £4o 11s 9d, standing at £49 2s 7d gs compared with £3-lt)s lOd last year. It is gratifying to l see an improvement in membership, and each member is asked to do bis and her best to secure additional members and thus strengthen the club.

The favourable weather conditions largely contributed to the successful season.

On 6th. January 28 gentlemen and four lady players from South Canterbury visited 1 Opotiki and on 23rd. March 64 gentlemen players from Taranaki. The visiting teams were equally divided between the Citizen’s Bowling Club and this Club. The high standard of sportsmanship and goodfcllowsliip displayed by these visitors

was deeply appreciated.

The annual visit of the. Wliakatano and Taneatua Clubs .on Boeing Day was as usual a pleasant event, and likewise the return visits bji this' club to Taneatua and Whakatane /on 29th. January, whore the members of this club thorough ly./en joyed them selves!. A During the season two contests were played for one; on the Citizens’ Green and/one on our green—the members of the Citizens’ Club proving the victors.

lii the club’s handicap singles and champion singles Mr M. O. Kidd won in each contest. Mr Clias. Gordon won the aggregate of all games played on club days throughout the season. Tlie committee join tlie other members of the club in extending their hearty congratulations to those* l successful competitors.

The Champion ot Champions contest in the District Centre and the Executive Fours were played at Whakatane on 23rd. March, where a; most enjoyable day was. .sjient by. those ticipating in. tln-f,games. A team from: this-club contested for the Ferguson Cup at Taneatua on 26th. March., . * ’ The committee., extend their grateful appreciation and thanks to . the members of the club’ who have rendered service to the club during the past season. In this connection/ they particularly wish to place on record the services of Mr C. Gordon, our : green superintendent, who gives so generously of his time and thought to the club and to Air Wilson Scott for bis generosity in digging the ground and supplying and planting of the flower beds which have blossomed forth so beautifully during the season." .At the last annual meeting the question of amalgamation of the two Opotiki Bowling Clubs was discussed, aiull it was decided to leave this matter in the hands of this committee. Your committee dealt with the subject early in the year and. after careful consideration it was decided that amalgamation of the two clubs would not be in the best interests of this club in particular and of bowling in general. Your committee are still of the same opinion as they feel-con-vinced that there are more persons playing bowls to-day with two separate clubs than there would be if there was only one cldl> in the district. Further, witli two clubs, the opportunity of inter-club contests, '.afforded without going out of the district, is good for the game of howls. Your committee are glad to record the mutually pleasant relationship which exists between the committees and members of the two clubs.
