Patterson returned to New Zealand per s.s. “Rotorua” last week. Mrs Patterson enjoyed a holiday, lasting over fourteen months, in England. DANCE AT WAICTAHI .IN AID OF .SCHOOL- FUNDS The committee of the Waiotahi School were the organisers of a most enjoyable dance which was held in the Waiotalii. Hall on Friday night. Dancing conditions were ideal and the committee had worked well to ensure, the success of the function. There was a good attendance, music being, supplied l»v Mr A.LcDougall and Mr It. Parkes, while Mr Wardlaw, of Waiinana, supplied a popular extra. The duties of •U.C. were ably carried out by Air L. \'. Looney, who, during an interval, thanked those present for their attendance. Winners of novelty dances were Miss IC. Oaves and Mr J . lolley. Miss H. Hooper and Mr Snell. Mrs P. Looney was the winner of a competition. The ladies served a very dainty supper.

W AIM ANA NOTES G A ItDENLNG Cl RULE The monthly meeting of the Gardening Circle of the Waimana-Nukn-liou Institute was held at the home of Airs A. Eagle last Wednesday afternoon. Alts Jerram, the president, presided over a very good attendance of ' members and three visitors. Apologies were received from three members who are at present on holiday. Airs Jerram has offered to distribute walnuts toi each member of the circle for planting. The day’s competition was something novel made from briar berries. The results were as follows: — Alls J. L. Burnett 1 and 2 with a “l inker Toy” and “Aliuiature Garden.” -and Airs Wool field 3 with a “Shoulder Spray”, and Airs Mannion’s exhibit was a set of “Bubble Pipes. All the exhibits were very good.

A competition of “jumbled names of llowers” was won by -Mrs C. Wylde. After a delicious afternoon tea bad Jieeii served by the hostesses. 31 rs 31 of tram and Miss Mo-ttram, the meniberltjtvolled round the garden and discussed the growing of different plants, which proved most intcrestjnjfer. The president then passed a hearty vote of thanks to -Mrs Eagle for the pleasant afternoon and to the hostesses, which closed a happy meeting.
