MOTOR VEHICLES COLLIDE

BOTH BADLY DAMAGED DRIVERS (ESCAPE INJURY There were two loud crashes, in John Street late yesterday afternoon.' when a- motor lorry driven by Air F. It. Skelton and a driven by Mrs J. E. Cooper camd into collision on Connelly’s corner. The truck was travelling in an easterly direction along Wellington Street across the St. John Street intersection ' while the car was travelling; in ’a northerly direction along St. John Street. There was a loud crash when the vehicles met while a- second: crash followed a moment later when both vehicles, locked together, broadsided and struck the telegraph pole near Collclly’s store, a- terrific blow. Telegraph lines for some distance shook vigorously and were left tangled. Within a few minutes a large crowd had gathered at the scene of the accident and stayed until it was nearly dark. Fortunately neither of the drivers was injured. A passenger in the truck received a slight scratch on the ear. The telegraph polo which is a large one was knocked nearly an inch out of -plumb at the ground level while the letter box was thrown several yards along tlie footpath. ■

Tlie rear portion of the decking of the truck was smashed t-n splinters while the front portion of the car was badly- smashed.
