Motor Registrations. > Motorists ai‘e •reminded that registrations can now be made at the Post Office, and are urged to make early application to avoid congestion at the end of the month. Representative Football. Football supporters are reminded of the representative match to be played on the reserve to-morrow, between teams representing the Motu and Opotiki Sub-Unions. A junior curtainraiser will add interest tpi the main attraction. Bring and Buy Sale. v A special feature of the bring and buy sale, to be held in St. John’s Hall on Thursday next, will be the exhibition of handwork. The sale is being organised by the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union. D.H.S. Appointment. Mr G. N. Gordon, 8.A., from New Plymouth, has been appointed assistant master at the Opotiki District High School. Mr Wotherston will act as relieving assistant .in place of Air Eaton who has received an appointment at Tolaga Bay.
Deputations to Minister. Residents of Omarumutu waited on the Hon. F. Langstone, Minister of Lands, prior to the political meeting on Wednesday night. The requests were in connection with the school bus and received an attentive hearing from the Minister. A further deputation on native affairs was also heard by Mr Langstone. Keep Fit Campaign. Opportunity to get lit and keep fit is afforded by the health and beauty classes which are being held in Opotiki each Friday night. Classes comprise a series of exercises chosen to help acquire a well-balanced and healthy body. Attention is drawn to the advertisement which appears in the advertising columns. Visit from Hon. P, Fraser. It was announced at the political meeting in the Parish Tlall on Wednesday night that the Minister of Education and Health, the Hon. P. Fraser would be visiting Opotiki early next month. The Minister will probably travel to Gisborne from Opotiki via. the new Coast road. He will spend two days in the Gisborne district. Glaring Headlights. Few Opotiki motorists appear to be .aware that it is an offence to drive in well lighted streets with headlights lull on. Dipped or dimmed lights are required when a car is in an area where vision is possible for 3Coft.. but most motorists are in the habit of going through the main streets with the lights full on. causing dazzle both to pedestrians and motorists alike.
Hes.vy Rainfall. Alter a .welcome period of line weather, steady rain commenced to fall on Wednesday night and continued with few interruptions • until early last nigh*t. The rainfall for the period of about 21 hours totalled 1.1)1) points. r l' 1 1 e total fall for the month to date is 2.73 inches. Although the wind was from the sooth, motorists returning to Opotiki from Gisboine yesterday stated that the Poverty Hay was not experiencing rain. 'A Satisfied! Fanner. At the conclusion of the Hon. F. Langstone’s address on Wednesday' night.. Air S. Brown. a dairy farmer of Waiotahi, moved a vote of confidence in the Labour Party and .Mr A. (1. Ilultquist. inemher for the Bay of Plenty. Air Brown stated that as a farmer he was very satisfied with the guaranteed price. The motion was carried by acclamation, in his reply to the vote of confidence Ail - Langstone expressed pleasure at the mover’s personal confidence in the guaranteed price and said he would let the Prime Aiinistor land other Cabinet members know .of Air Brown’s experience of the guaranteed price. On the motion of Afr Langstone. the A Layer Air G. S. Moody was accorded a vote of thanks for presiding.
