Walker and W. Putterworth have returned from a holiday spent in Whangarei. * X- X- X- X X X A farewell party arranged bv her friends of Whakarau, Motu, .and Motuliora, was recently tendered toi Mrs G. \V. Haydon. prior to her departure for Opotiki where she will make her future home. The function was held at Mrs W. A. Wright’s home in conjunction with the Women’s Institute meeting. Mr and Mrs Haydon have lived in that district for the past 30 years and have taken an active interest in the work of the various organisations. On behalf of the women of the district, Mrs. Wright presented Mrs Havdou with a fireside chair, wishing her many years of happiness and hours of comfort. Musical honours were accorded Mrs Haydon who replied- briefly. W.D.F.U. SOCIAL EVENING CUT TO MIPS. H. O. DRAKE A happy social evening was field in the Parish- Hall'on Tuesday when members of the W.D.F.U. honoured Mrs. H. 0. Drake, who was president of the Junior Branch of the Division. There was a good attendance, and flag 500 was enjoyed until 10 p.m., the winners being Mrs "VN hittington, Mrs Lovell sour., Mrs Parkinson and
Mr Whitfield. The travelling Hag was won 'by Mrs C. I). .Brown. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs Hollard. Mrs Joblin, Mr T. McDonnell and Miss -Mavis McDonnell. At the conclusion of play, Mr A. F. Martin presented the successful players with their prizes and called upon Mrs Drake to accept a dainty crystal set of water jugj and tumblers. Jhe presentation, was made on behn'f ot the members of the W.Di’.U. Mrs Martin presented 31 rs Drake with a charming bouquet. -Mr H. D. Drake suitably responded on Mrs Drake’s behalf. All joined in singing “For They are Jolly Good .bellows ’. A dainty supper was served and the remainder of the evening was spent in dancing to excellent music supplied by Mr -M'annix with a popular accordeon extra by -Mrs Warrington. The duties of 3.1. C. were capably carried out by 31r Staveley. A novelty dance was wen by 3ljss J. M oho and 3lrs Pennell. A happy evening was concluded with the singing ui “Auld Lang Syne”. ,
DANCE AT WAIOEKA HA LL CO3LMITTEE’S EFFORT A bright and successful dance, organised by the committee and members of the Waiccka Hall, was held in the Waiccka Hall on Wednesday P'igliLc- The hall was decorated with f grter^ > 'V, colour being added to the scene by the distribution of streamers and confetti; There was a good attendance and dancing was enjoyed to the music provided by the Kit Kat Band. -Mr D. Bennett capably carried out the duties el: 31. C. Novelty dances were won by 3h\s H. Burgess and 31r T. Black and 31iss H. Tew and 3lr J. Parkinson. A hidden number competition was won by -Mr T.
