MR. J. B. COW’S RETIREMENT
APPEAL TO CHAIRMAN When it was announced recently that the chairman of' the Power Board, Air. J. B. Gow, did not intend to again seek a further term of office, a special appeal was made to- the chairman, by members of the board and staff executive to accept nomination. for a : further term. The letter addressed, to' Air Gow is as follows: “We, the present members of the Board request- that you accept nomination for a further term of office. i “We do this owing to the fact that your association with the Board’s activities from its inception has been for the good of the district and in the interest of the Board: and its consumers. Trusting that you see your way to acquiesce with the earnest wish of your fellow members and executive Officers. We are, yours sincerely: F. J. Burt, John Win'. Sumner, S. Alaxwell, J. A. Alitc-hell, F. J. Savage, AY. Burrett, J. D. Dicker, Geo. A. Hathaway.” Mr. Cow’s Reply. To the above appeal, the chairman replied as follows : “To Alessrs F. Burt, John Wm. Sumner, S. Mhxwell, J. A. Mitchell, F. J. Savage, AY. Burrett, J. D. Dicker, Geo. A. Hathaway : “Dear Sirs, —I have to thank you Gentlemen for the request you made to- me in your letter of April 12th., asking that- I accept nomination lor a further term of office in the Bay of Plenty Power Board. I regret that I did not see my way to accept nomination. “It was only after mature consideration that- I decided to retire - from further service on Local Bodies, which form of service it has been my great privilege to render in the Bay of Plenty for a period now extending over 50 years. Strange to say from 1887 to 1890, inclusive, I filled the office cf Chairman of the then AATiakatano County Council which embraced all the area now included in the Jjlay of Plenty Power Board’s District, from which 1 now demit office. “I. thank you very heartily Gentlemen for the expression of your confidence in me. 1 believe I leave the interests of the Board and of the Public safely in your hands. Aly experience of the public spirit and ability of members of this Board leads me to wish to see you re-elected and again rendering service which shall help to ensure the future prosperity and advancement oi our district.
“To Alessrs. Dicker and Hathaway, executive members of o-ur staff, 1 tender my thanks for faithful and unwearied efforts to further the interests of the District as trustees for tlie public, together with the elected members of the Beard, since its in • ception.
“Again thanking you for your letter, which j shall prize as a token of the comradeship which lias always existed among us.”
