WAIMANA NEWS

INSTITUTE MEETING I

The usual monthly meeting of the Waimana-Nukuhou brandh of the Women’s Institute was held in the Waimana Hall last Wednesday alternqon. Mrs F.; J- Savage presided over good attendance of members, and several visitors.

After the singing of the Institute Song, the usual routine business was transacted.

A letter was read from a member, Mrs W. Wardlaw, who is at present on holiday in Scotland, and proved most interesting. ‘

Mrs I. Savage then gave a. very full report on the annual meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation which was held in Opotilii. The Drama Circle was congratulated* on their success in the recent Drama Festival which was also held in Opotiki/

j\. singing circle was formed, so as to try and have more music and singing at the meetings, it being “Members’ Day”, Mrs Marra, assisted by Mrs T. Wardlaw, most capably carried out the entertainment for the afternoon. Tire Roll Call, “My Favourite Song”, was well responded to. Miss H. Hoole rendered two solos most sweetly. Mrs Wylde senr., then player the accompaniments for community singing. .The day’s competitions were well entered for: —Best flower from “Member’s Garden” :—Mrs Black 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Woolfield 3. “Bowl of flowers arranged in earth”, Mrs Clark I, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. “Date Loaf”, Mrs 1. Savage 1, Airs Clark 2, Mrs Hewitt 3.

A dainty tea was served by the hostesses, Mirs Hughes, Mrs Eagle, Airs King, Mrs Fleming and Aliss Fleming. The singing of the National Anthem closed a, pleasant afternoon.
