JUDGE’S , COMMENTS The following are .thoi judge’s comments on the placed' dogs at the Bay of Plenty Sheep. Dog Trial Club’s annual meeting held > at Messrs Reid Bros.’ property } Waioelta, Opotiki, last week
Zig zsg Hunt. ,■ Ist. G. Mead’s Bully, 424 points. Lifted sheep well and hunted in very good line and style. Let, off course a little and then hunted well to 2nd set of flags. Started! '3rd set on good line and then let sheep drift t 0 left, recovered and hunted well to put through 3rd. set. Made good steady progress throughout course. Sheep not distressed at any part of journey. 2nd. MacEruera’s Nuki, 39 points. Started sheep fairly well and through Ist sot of flags. Dog then slack. Sheep kept line without help of dog. Let sheep drift past 2nd. flag; recovered! and put through fairly good line and pace to 3rd. set. Dog a bit slack, style fairly good. Completed. 3rd. F. Mead’s Rock -374 points. Dog inclined to tack sheep at start,' otherwise good hunt to Ist set. Did a bad turn after putting through. Put through 2nd set on fairly good line. Let sheep too low then hunted well and: in, good line to near 3rd flags, where , dog let sheep , past. Recovered well and was in position to put on call of time.
4th. E. Williams’ Jock 324 points. Fairly good hunt to Ist set of flags but out of position to hunt through. Hunted too far up course in 2nd stage. Turned sheep back, and hunted fairly well to 2nd set where dog put through after some trouble. Let sheep too low. and then limited to busk gully to left of course. Straight Hunt. Ist. MacEruera’s Broad, 41 points. Lifted she£p well and hunted, on, good line but Jet sheep, a little to left at foot 'of bill. Quickly recovered and hunted on good line to finishing flag. Noise good; style good.
C. J. Gordon’s Roy -lU4 points. Sheep started ou good line across'gully and up steep face on good line. Let slightly; to left half way up face. Brought back on to line and slightly to right near flags ; turned and put back to flag. Completed.
Si'il. A. AI(-Tuvisit's Toss, 40 points. Hunted on good line to gully, Jot slightly to right in gully hut put buck on lino. Hunted well up steep face where one sheep hailed on dog and from there to rinisli sheep were split through keeping dog too close to sheep. 4th. C. J. Hyland’s Tip, 39 point:;. Started on good line to hollow. Hunted across and then dog came back ac.toss hollow. Working owner too much. Started to hunt up face but again, inclined to come hack on course let to right of peg and then across to peg. Long Head. Ist. Cl. H. .Moricc's Spot, 46 points. Cast t<> right on good line and pate: stopped once. Headed in 1.20. Brought down nicely to foot of Hill where let sheep to right. Brought hack on to line hut let sheep off little before coming to fence; recovered and brought sheep to front of ring in good order. Let sheep out of ring at start and then put up a good hold, in both lonnds. 2nd. C>. J. Gordon’s Pat, 42£ points. C ast to right, went out on good line fast. came, out little to right on to
ridge and then headed on ridge in 1.00. Lifted sheep nicely but rash nft- ' or starting. Let sheep to right, recovered and brought hack on to line. Steady as approached ring where sheep came in at front. Hold in ring only fair. 3rd. C. J. Hyland’s Jock, 42 points. Cast to right on good line. Fast on to ridge; stopped twice near head. Headed in 2.12. Started pull nicely, good line, and good steady pull but dogged ; stopped too many times. Brought into ring at front hut let out. • Let out ring when starting 2nd turn. Had nearly completed when again got out.
Completed ring work. Ring work only fair. 4th. G. H. Mo-rice*s Laddie, 414 points.’ Cast to right, a little slack at start, then out on to ridge and beaded in 2.30. Started pull fairly well and then sheep broke to left off line into gully. Brought back on to line but rash at finish of pull. Entered back of ring. Completed ring without letting sheep out.
Short Head and Yard. Ist. CL H. Moriee’s Spot. 54| points. Cast to right on fast good line but (•.•line in a little. Stopped twice and headed .in 1.25. Lifted sheepi nicely. Good line to foot hill where let sheep drift to right, dog appearing to work left side too much. .Recovered and brought sheep balance of journey to pegs, good. First drive good; hurdles good. Second drive fair, let sheep- drift past pegs. Work at yard very good. 2nd 1 . C. J. Hyland’s Jock, 52 points. Cast to right on good line and fairly good pace. Headed nicely in 2.2, hut •little slow. Good line to foot of hill where let sheep off to right; brought back, let sheep to right again. Brought two sheep through swamp, the other later. Brought sheep in between pegs. First drive good. Hurdles first attempt good; 2nd. drive very good. Work bit yard very good,-hut dog turned tail three times; otherwise very good.
3rd. C l . J. Gordon’s Pat. 51J points. Cast to right, went out on good line fast. Headed in 1.20. Brought- good line, steady pace to foot of hill. Parked, let sheep drift to right, recovered when approaching gully then brought at a, nice steady pace to 'pegs.. First drive very good. Hurdles good, second drive goedi. Work at yard ■fair; yarded after several attempts.
4th. C. J. Gordon’s Speed, 57 points. Cast to right on good line and fast and then came in and headed too
