THE ANNUAL REPORT ir . , ' f r ‘ ; fi\The following annual report was '(presented at the annual meeting of the Opotiki E.S..A.: — w Your executive has pleasure in presenting this the 19tli. annual report of the work of the Association. The past year has been a busy one and we again impress oil all Returned men the need for an active Association. Monthly meetings have been held and well attended and valuable service has been rendered to a number of Returned Soldiers and their dependents.
The year has ended with a credit balance of nection, it is pleasing to record that a legacy of £IOO has been left to the Association, which is not included in the above. Mrs. Mary Simpson, who died during the year, directed that this sum should be used for those members a,L : this Association who are in needy circumstances. 'The spirit behind this generous act is highly appreciated and it is hoped that some accute distress may be alleviated by the use of this money..
We wish to thank the secretary, Mr W. Newell who is retiring, for the services lie has so. willingly given during the past year. Hospital] Scheme. —We were fortunate in being able to make very satisfactory arrangements with the Opotd-i District Hospital Baord for a hospital benefit scheme to all Returned Soldiers who are financial members of this .Association and who reside in the borough or county of Opotiki.
Pensions.—Several claims for pensions, renewals, or increases have been presented during the year with satisfactory results in many of the cases. Patriotic Society.—The , interest of the Local Patriotic Society, in cases of distress amongst pur comrades and their dependents lias again been amply demonstrated by the sympathetic and generous consideration to all made for assistance.
Poppy Day.—We. again extend our sincere thanks tfi the energetic ladies’ committee for another successful Poppy Day appeal. To the public, we extend our grateful thanks for their generous support.
... Membership. —This, has again shown a gratifying increase of 19 during the vear.
Annual Re-union. —The annual reunion dinner was held on, the evening of April the 23rd. The usual good
spirit of comradeship prevailed throughout the evening. We are deeply, indebted to the ladies’ dinner committee and the ladies of the district foxproviding us with such an excellent dinner.
It ia with 'regret, that we have to record the passing of two. of our late comrades, Messrs. Ernie Sergeant and Denis Hickey. I would ask you to pay the iisual tribute to these .Diggers by standing for two minutes.
