Opotiki Police. ' Constable W. H. Rogers, flio was previously stationed at Eltliam, lias joined the Opotiki Police Force. ■. i . '■ Opotiki P.W.D. Engineer. Mr. p. K. Roberts. Gisborne, lias been appointed to; the position;'of P. W.D. engineer, to be stationed at Opotiki. It is considered in seme quarters that the appointment foreshadows extensive works in the Opotiki area. Drama Festival. The organisers of the Drama Festival to be held in St. John’s Hall on Thursday, 28tli. inst. will serve tea during the adjournment for luncheon and afternoon tea will also he served and included in the price of admission. Induction! Service. The induction .of the Rev. W. H. Wilson to the charge of the Opotiki Methodist Circuit' took place at the Methodist Church, last evening. A most impressive service was conducted by the Rev.,G. R. Hunt, of Tauranga, after which a happy hour was spent in the school-room with social talk, singing and supper. Girl Guide Afternoon, •A very successful afternoon organised by tiie local members of the Girl Guide Company to raise money to augment tlioir funds, was held last week in the garden of Airs A. El. Herrmg’s residence. Cake, novelty, •sweets and iiroduce stalls were well stocked, and did, brisk business while a bran-tub proved a great attraction. Competitions were won. by Mrs H. Bridge, Airs Li. D. Duff and AJaster .Christopher Seville. Afternoon tea was served in buffet style. As a result of their efforts, the Guides will augment their funds by about £3>. 1.0.0. F. installation. The biennial installation of officers of the Opotiki 1.0.0. F. Lodge took place in the Lyric Hall last niglit. The installing officers were , from Taneatua, and Wliakatane lodges. Bro. J. Butler IXJXG.AI. of Taneatua was in charge of the ceremony. The officers installed were: Bro. G. Alunro, N.G.; Bro. AY. Hallam, Y.CL ; Bro. J. Sliaw, AVarden; Bro. AY. Rogers, chaplain; Bro. C. Wyldc, conductor; Bro. J. Elliott, secretary; Bro. A. Talbot, R.S.N.G.; Bro. C. AVydde was admitted to membership of the Opotiki Lodge: *Vfter tlie meeting an eiijoyable game of bowls was played and teams were selected to take part. in the match against the MtU.1.0.0.F. Tools Stolen. -As a result of tools having disappeared from a P.YY.D. tool-box at- the Waiutalii beach, Roliert Edward .Sherman, single, aged 20, appeared before Al'essrs C. Pipe and J. D- Clark, J. P.’s, charged with stealing an axe and n. crowbar valued at £l, the property of the New Zealand Government. Accused pleaded, guilty. Sergeant J. I«hister who prosecuted said that on sth. inst. lie received a complaint from Air J. Williams concerning the missing tools. The lock on the box showed iio signs of having been tampered with, but it was found that the box had been rolled over on its side and a board removed from the bottom. Accused had been splitting lire wood on the beach and had been employed by Air Bachman who expressed the opinion that the tools would still bo where the wood had been split. The crowbar was found there. The bench sentenced accused to seven days’ imprisonment.
