Tpton, reported as follows at the monthly meeting of the Opotiki County Council, iteiu on hriday last: — Contract Completed; Contract No. 569 for reforming and metalling 33 chains Whitikuu road has been completed. Contract Let: l have let Contract No. 532 fort ermiitg and metalling 8* chains McDonnell's road to Mr D. Mil)aero at the estimate. Waiotahi Valley Road Bridge: 1 have received two offers for che supply of materials and the construction of tlie above, both prices, 1 consider too high. The amount available for expenditure is £2OO £1 for •;!, total £4OO. There is still the sum of £25 of the vote as yet not authorised which may lie made available which then would bring the total £1 for £1 up to £450. Eradication of’ Ragwort: The men engaged on ragwort eradication ceased work on the 12th. March. General

ly speaking tlie weed has not. been so prevalent. There are -many property owners who are very careless m the matter of trying; to check- the growth of this pest as isolated were to be. seen growing vigorously, in many places on the flat lands. No. 13 Scheme: Men On the above scheme are working on the Pet-i Peti and Irvine’s Hoad. I intend putting: some of them on shortly to clean up Keen’s Road. Ruatuua Road: In company with several Councillors an inspection was made of the above road. Since then the district engineer has asked mo to lay off the work and tarnish a report of the cost- to him.

The Otara River bank on either side near Culverwell’s and Vanstone’s inis been protected. Later cn these places should be planted with bitter willows. On AVaiapu Road a portion of it has .been raised and gravelled. •travelling has been done on Jackson’s (Toni Walker’s) Road, Gabriel's Gully, Waiotahi, Otara and Waioeka Roads. The Waiuta Road (Beaufoy’s) has been repaired. Repairs have been done on Reward's Road and the washout at the Stream crossing the Waingarara Road lias been cribbed up. The Grader lias worked on McGregor's, Dip, and Otara East ltoads. ihe planer has worked oil theHospital, Woodlands, Waiawa and Wliakatane Roads.
