FOREMANS REPORT The following report was presented by' the foreman (Ml* W. Cochrane) at the monthly meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council on Tuesday night. Highways.—-Church and St. Jtlin streets" have been patched. 166 cubic yards of filling and 28 cubic yards of metal carted on to Bridge Street, traffic lines and pedestrian crossings painted in Church street, ako three crossings at the school. New Cemetery. —A fourteen ft. crossing put, twenty yards oi filling carted to bring the crossing up to grade with St. John street and Cemetery' Ground. Blackberry and weeds have all been cut and will be burnt and the section ploughed; disked r levelled up and sown and rolled.

The drain in Buchanan street- was cut through to the river a distance of o-i- chains and 66ft of *9 inch concrete pipes laid across Goring street. Concrete slabs and bearers are being made in the yard for the culvert across Ford street at Church street intersection and also pipes lor the drain to connect with .Mr Caves at Oi lurch street. Mbtal graded to the mown or the road in a number of streets, the weather being too dry lcr metalling. Blackberry has been cut oft all streets. i’aspalum. etc., cut on most oi the footpaths. The footpath in St. John’s street at, the furniture lactovy trenched and sealed with tar and chips, and will he finished off with line I ore re shingle. ■ The footpath- in Church street end block sealed with tar ar,d fort re shingle, 660 ft of 3 x 1 laid in the next block and 83- yards of pumice carted. This block will be scaled this week. Suitable filling carted to level up the outside of the footpaths in Church street. Filling carted m to the block opposite Mr I urner s Chit ago. Hedge 'cut on Mrs Thompson's estate. Barb-wire erected on the bathing sheds to stop children from climbing on the roof. Gates at the Sports Reserve and Camping Ground nave been repaired. 30 cubic yards of filling carted to Ford street river-bank. Fire plugs cleaned out. and a number of them painted. Scour valves blown out and the Jam scoured put-. One water service installed.- one renewed and one repaired W ator meters arc being read.
