SMALLER CREAM CHEQUES
BIG DROP IN PRODUCTION GISBORNE) ADVANCES Gisborne cream cheques are considerably smaller on February production than for the corresponding month last year, despite the higher advance rate ruling this season, states the P.B. Herald. The dry summer brought the production down to a fairly low level, and the rain at the end of January and during February did not act as beneficially as was expected in regard to the dairy herds. Frequently rain in the late summer or early autumn bring the cows up in a second flush, but that did not Jiappcn this year, probably because the rain was not followed by frequent light showers as in other years when the autumn production lias risen. The Kia Ora Co-operative Dairy Company’s February cheque, paid out on Saturday, totalled. £10,531 on a basis of Is 2Td per fb., compared v.itdi the February total last year of £19,731 at tlie rate of 12d per lb. The production last mouth was -20 per cent, lower than a year ago. but during tliel atter part of February a siiiaii increase was shown. The Okitu Co-operative Dairy 'Company, Limited, paid out £4792 at 12-£d‘ last Saturday, compared with £6322 at 12d a year ago. Supplies arriving at the Okitu factory also showed a considerable reduction on the dgures for February last year, a certain amount of tins being du,e to productmn’Most as a result of the flood.
