Shipping. The, motor ship Waiotalii arrived at the Opotiki wharf this morning and is scheduled to leave for Auckland to-morrow. “Kcw Kountry”. Passers-by in the street to-day were greatly amused by the placards which adorned the conveyances of the visiting howling teams. They were humorously inscribed “Kapricious Kitty Kissers from the Iyow Kountry”. Auction Sale. ): The auction sale to be conducted * on behalf of Mr. It. Cuff on Saturday next will lie held at the residence, Kelly Street, opposite St. r Mary’s Church. Sheep Dog Trial Club. The annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Sheep Dog Trial Club will bo held in Mr. Pearson’s office, on .Saturday next, commencing at 8 p.m. Card Evening. Readers are reminded of the card evening to he held in the Regent Tearooms to-night,- under the auspices of the Rebekah Lodge, Surf Clubs to Visit Cisfrorne. During the week-end teams from the Opotiki and Whakatane Surf Life-Saving Clubs will visit CJ isborne. Members of the teams will be entertained at a. dance at Wainui lieacn on. Saturday evening, and demonstrations will be given on the beach on Sunday afternoon; The members who will represent Opotiki have not yet been chosen.
Opotiki Rough-rider. It is understood that a local rider, Mr. Sam Hollis has been chosen to represent New Zealand in a team ot riders to compete at the next Royal Show in Sydney. A special horsemanship test, organised by the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association, on behalf of the Australian Royal Show Association was held yesterday in Gisborne with a large number of entries. The local rider gave a splendid exhibition of horsemanship and is to be congratulated on his inclusion in the team. Touring Bowlers. The party of Taranaki bowlers who are visiting Opotiki to-day accompanied by a number of ladies, in the course oi their tour are playing games at the Citizens’ and Opotiki Bowling •Clubs this afternoon. A large number of the party took the opportunity this morning of visiting St. Stephen’s Church and considerable interest was displayed. The party consisted of 64 howlers and 16 ladies. London Motoring. “Although I have travelled a good deal in New Zealand and elsewhere in a motor ear without a feeling of nervousness, I ‘had the wind up’ for a few days in the London streets, especially near the Bank of England.’’ said Mr \Y. G. Morrison, a Christchurch engineer, in an address to the Christchurch Rotary Club. The traffic was particularly dense, he said, every bit of the road being used. However, the London drivers would not run into another motorist, unless they could not possibly help it. Hungarian Taxation. “The people or the British Empire are very lucky.
