OBITUARY

\ MR. DENIS ',HICKEY Following an illness lasting over several montiis, th© death ot MV. Denis Hickey occurred at liis residence, Goring Street, on Tuesday afternoon. The late Mr Hickey, who was in his sixty-eighth year, was born in County Cork, ’lreland, coining to .New Zealand as a youth.. For many yea is he worked in the Napier and Gisborne districts until, in 1921/. lie was transferred to the Opotiki district as overseer to the Public Works Department. This position he held; until liis retirement some three years ago, since when he found time to indulge in''his favourite hobby of gardening, his garden being a show place. The possessor of a kindly and cheery nature, ever willing to help his 1 fellow men, the late Mr. Hickey was extremely popular with liis workmen and his many friends in the district, by whom news of his death will be received with profound regret. Deepest sympathy will go to his widow, two sous and two daughters, Timothy, Patrick, Kftthleen and Nora.

Requiem Mass was said at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church this morning and the lUneral which took place at the Opotiki Cemetery to-day was one of the most largely atteiulever seen in Opotiki. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Hie service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Father Brady.
