ACCIDENTS

MOTOR-TRUCKS COLLIDE TRUCK BADLY DAMAGED DRIVER- SLIGHTLY INJURED Ah accident with unusual circumstances occurred in St. John Street at an early hour this morning, when two motor-trucks, belonging to the Auck-land-Gisborne Freight Service, collided with considerable force. Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction towards Taneatua, when the front truck suddenly pulled up when approaching the St. John Street-Bridge Street intersection. The weather was bad at the time and the driver of the second truck,which was following close behind, was unable to avoid a collision, although the truck was swung to. the right m an effort to get by. The right rear side, of the front truck was hit a: hard blow, the body on that side being almost completely wrecked, all the cress-members being badly broken and the side badly torn. Debris was strewn over the roadway in all directions, while drums of benzine were also, thrown off the truck. The driver of the front truck, Mr. I). Hammond, received ai severe shaking, and a cigarette holder which was in his mouth at the time of the accident was broken, the driver receiving injuries to his face. The truck in the rear, although damaged, was able, to proceed later to Taneatua with the mails.
