An Old Sportsman. In thanking Mr. J. McCaldon, president of the Qpotiki Hod and ‘Gun Club, for his remarks while presenting him with the T. Black! Trophy yesterday, Mr. W. Seinmens, of Taneatua, mentioned that lie had attended every shoot of any size held in the Opetiki district for the past ' thirty years. Shipping. The motor ship Waiotahi arrived at Qpotiki yesterday with a special, shipment- of some 140 tons of manure. She is expected to leave Qpotiki to day and is scheduled to leave Auckland on Wednesday for her usual weekly trip to Qpotiki, arriving here on Thursday evening. The Weather. The following weather' forecast for the 24 hours commencing at 9 a.m. to-day was issued by the meteorological office The indications are immoderate northerly winds and freshening.. There is a prospect of fair to haze and cloudiness and later seme cloudy weather but with- increasing rain probable especially in northern areas. The barometer has- a rising tendency. Seas smooth to moderate but later increasing.
Chase After Missing Car. Mr. M. Yaustone’s- motor-car was taken from the borough on Saturday night, just before Mr. \ anstone intended leaving for his farm. He left the car for about five minutes but when lie returned l*' 1 found liis vallied disappeared. He informed the •police who secured the services of a taxi and believing that the car would most probably be taken down the Coast road:, set off in that -direction. The missing car was seen ahead on the. Torero hill but the driver apparently realised he was being followed, for he Cjtiiekly abandoned the car at the top of the Hill and escaped in the nearby shrub. The police believe the car was taken by a member of the gang responsible for previous conversions of a number' of motor vehicles, and who will appear before the children's court at the next- sitting in Qpotiki. Drunkennsss. At the Qpotiki Police Court this morning before Mir J. r 4. Merry. .J.]’., Allred Jones was charged with being found drunk in Kelly Street on Saturday. Tlse accused pleaded guilty. Constable Beasley stated that accused's condition necessitated medical attention. The accused was convicted and ordered to pay medical expenses. John It van was charged with being Icund drunk in Church ,st. Constable Cooper gave evidence to the effect that.- he arrested the accused in Church Street at 6.15 p.m. on Sunday. He stated that accused was with the previous offender on Saturday and was drunk, , returning to Torero. He returned to town on Sundae and consumed mere liquor. The bench, convicted the accused and imposed a fine of £l.
