Short, Transiers of land in the borough were approved. Water Supply.—An application for an extension of the borough water * supply along the main Opotiki-Whaka-taue highway was received •roni a number of county- residents. Consideration was deferred. Lease. —An offer to take over a small section at the previous rental and with rates, was received from Alt’ Sargent.—The offer was accepted. River Protection. —A letter was received in connection with the suggesl- ‘ fd cut- to be .made in the dboiv belcuv the Otara bridge. Pole Removal.—A letter was., received from the Lay of Plenty Power Hoard in connection with the proposed removal or a power pole uii -Mifieming's corner. -Ur. fucker pointed out that, the pole was in the usual positon, ancl considered the council snouki near the wnote oi the expense of removal. —An aiternative scheme was submitted by the L wn clerk and this met with tlve genera! approval ot councillors. V\ ebb and carried. Wharf Aloaey.—lt- was stated that the credit balance standing to the wharf account was £l7llO and no interest was being paid bv the hank. The council decided to trams re- the money to the Post Office Savings Rank. Wharf Award. —A letter - was received re the new wharf award. Ihe town clerk said the wharfinger would receive less than he was receiving at the present time is the suggestion carried out was adopted. Cr. Stevenson said that under the award the wharfinger would receive £3OO as against £2BO at present. Ho -was receiving extra from the Northern Co. at present. Or. Shalfoon said it would he alright if the wharfinger did his work without the council paying anything for assistance. He moved that the award he adhered to and that the existing arrangement stand. Live corners hau been marked out and crossings marked at the school. He asked for authority to mark out pedestrian crossings in the main street. Ci. Webb proposed that the inspector’s report be approved. —Carried. Cr. Webb referred to the parking of ‘ cars in front of the Power Hoard building during working hours and said that on a recent Saturday night the board’s employees could not get at the deers to take in parts for welding, and considerable 1 inconvenience had been caused—lt was decided that councillors make an inspection of the street. Duke Street Road.—The suggested opening tip of Duke Street for a stock route was mentioned J>y the deputymayor, who said the cost would he about- £IOOO and was prohibitive. He * considered that Wellington Street should he graded and the street oiled. Authority was given to the works committee to do this work. That the council consider the purchase of a .suitable site (other than the existing site) and that consideration lie given to the preparation of plans and specifications for a. municipal hall suitable lor boieiigli purposes and at a cost ol approximately £2OOO. Boat Shed.—An application was received for permission to erect a boat shed <>n Volkner Island. —The cleputy-mayor saiu tin* council ’had no authority to grant such permission. 'J’he matter was left in the hands of Cr. Webb to make other arrangements. ' , Cemetery. —Cr. Shalfoon referred to the cemetery account which he said Stood in credit. £7O. He considered that the new cemetery site* should he prepared and moved that the* a oiks committee expedite the work. Carried.

The deputy-mayor said the fence and crossing should he fixed and concrete paths prepared.
