MONTHLY MEETING NtnsE’S RESIDENCE .AT TE KAHA Die inontlily meeting of the Opotiki: Hospital Board was held at the County Chambers on Friday afternoon.'- Present: -Messrs F. J. Short (chairman), G. J. Neil.son, S. Shalloon, S. Maxwell, J. McDonnell, Dr. H. J. Mail (hospital superintendent), and M‘r. J. T. Merry (secretary).. Outward correspondence was read and approved. Correspondence was received oii the matter of the residence, at present occupied by the District Nurse at Te Kaha, the lease of which. expired at the end of last year. Mr. W. Bislop, native agent, wrote on behalf of the native owners who are desirous of residing i.n the dwelling themselves, asking that the house be vacated by Ist. April. A copy of a. letter which had been forwarded to. the Native Minister, was enclosed. The letter pointed out that, while the owners were dosirous of residing in the liosue at present occupied by the district nurse, they realised the difficulty which would be experienced in finding another suitable residence for her, and suggested that a new dwelling be erected. It was decided to await the outcome of the letter.

A letter irpm the Tourist and Publicity Department, Rotorua, in reply to an inquiry by the hoard, stated that they had no accommodation or facilities for education patient of sevep years of age. The patient in question is now an inmate of the W dson Home. Auckland, and Dr. Mail suggested that the. secretary he instructed to write to- the Surgeon in Charge asking that a technical report on the ease be forwarded to him and inquiring what improvements would be likely to occur during the next three months. The IVaipawa Hospital Board wrote that as part time tuberculosis officer. Dr. Hugh Short was not rc; giving any remuneration from the boards served and it had been decided to increase Ins solarby -£370. and establish clinics, this amount being shared by the varices boards. The acting-matron, Sister Fra set. reported a very- busy, mouth and: asked i<ir the board’s approval to obtain ;1 temporary sister to assist for a short time.- Dr. Mail pointed out that this was really necessary as the stall had been experiencing a very busy and trying time.
