Watt, Director General of hospitals, accompanied by Dr H. K. Turbott, District Health Officer from Hamilton, and Dr. Davies, District Health Officer from Gisborne, visited the, local hospital on Saturday, morning. They were met by members id the Hospital Board and Drs. H. JMail, and A.- J .Brass. There was a. general discussion on hospital matters and Dr. Watt expressed himself as quite satisfied with the general conduct of the hospital. He later left for Wellington via Gisborne in which district he made an inspection of the Native Health Camp inaugurated by „ Dr.-Turbott for the isolation of Maori tuberelosuis cases. ******* Mr. A. H. Short who lias been a member of the staff of the Bay of Plenty Electric Power Board for the past ten years was the recipient of a suitable presentation on Friday evening prior to his leaving to take a noth- ■■ er position in the town. The secretary, Mr G. A. Hathaway, in making the presentation, spoke of their mans }ia-ppy years of association. Mr. Short suitably replied. Short ■introduced Mr and Mrs Sullivan, stating that* the reception had been organised' to give supporters of the party an opportunity of meeting the guests of honour. -Mr ,Short referred to -Mr Sullivan s outstanding merits widen made him siiitaiilo to he chosen a? a. candidate. Mr Sullivan briefly addressed the gathering, thanking those; present for their attendance and tne opportunity fox him to meet them. He assured them that the confidence ai:d trust they placed in him would not be misplaced. Mrs V. E. Black presented -Mrs Wilson with a floral bouquet. A happy afternoon was spent in the - delightful surroundings, the* function concluding with three rousing cheers for Mrs John Black and* Mir and Mrs Clem. Black in placing their grounds at the disposal of the- organisation.

The evening was a jolly one, tlie members representing .liicnis teams participating in the Empire Games; the teams comprising Canada. Xew Zealand, South Africa ...cel Australia, were tinder the leadership of Messrs G. B. 31urray, J. AA . Alurray, C. J. Thompson and Rev. A. ■C. Hampton. Winners of the* various games and competitions gained points ior his or her team and great enthus,sm was. shown. An alphabet relay anel ,a tricycle* race were two outstanding events, great- amusement being caused by both. An amusing incident was the presentation to the gocst of honour, of a bouquet of swede turnips, inscribed '‘Swedes to the* Sweet”. ’the presentation nas made by Master Bob Fleming, who glided cm roller skates to the guest of honour. A dainty supper was served under a specially erected awning. Rev. A. C. Hampton expressed the regret of all present at the loss of Aliss Thompson from their midst, but added that he felt sure she. would he very happy and that she would be a, help to any, community to which she went. ' Miss Thompson was the recipient o-f a charming bouquet of flowers. Mrs. J. G. ALurray and 3lr. T. Steele, as leaders of the Bible Classes, also spoke of their regret of Aliss Thompson s impending departure and wished her . health and happiness in the'future. On behalf of the members of the Bible Classes. Rev. A. C. Hampton presented the guest of honour with a handsome case of silver soup spoons and cake shovel. 3lis.s Thompson charmingly responded. The evening was concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Sync. On Sunday morning the tiny members of the Kindergarten Department of St. John’s Sunday School gathered to lud farewell to Miss Thompson, head teacher of their department. 31iss E. Murray and 3lr G. B. -Murray as acting superintendent, both spoke of the sterling work Miss Thompson had done in the Kindergarten afM wished her success and happiness in her new sphere. Anne MoCaldon presented Miss Thompson with a charming floral bouquet and Ruth Vans tone, cal'behalf of the children of the kindergarten. presented her with a, dainty silver toast rack. Miss I hompson thanked the children for their charming gift.
