OXFORD ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Wednesday last, all the members being present. Tiie S •rveyo' s report was read, and it was res <lved to call tenders for clearing the side channel m Church Street; for clearing tussocks on a portion of the Pour Chain R»>ad north of the Eyre, from a pjrion ol the Burnt Hill itoad, and from Wright's Boa i ; also, fu- repairing the main road from Paisn's comer to Bennett's. The Smv<yor was instmcted to give notice to ihe occupieis of land adjoining the water-races tJab the water would be turneu off from the 2.st to the 28th of September, aud thai all t c races must be cleared out uuri_i_ that ti_u_, a..d tuat if th_ notice was hot complied with during the sp.cihe.' time, the Surveyor was instructed to immediately have the work done at the oc-..ui.-ie ; s' expense. It « as resolved to give notice to several occupiers to clear gorse from the roads auj-ining their properties. The Surveyor was insructed to have the fence round the pLmtitioa on tlie Terrace re..aiied, -nd instruct the Ranger to impound all cattle found, grazing therein. He was also instructed to take legal proceedings against any prson removing gravel, without permission, from the property of the. Boarii. It was de iied to allow the matter of graveling the lootpaths to stand over for tlie present; nnd also the repairs to the footbridge at Winter's Ford, m the meantime the Surveyor to ascert.in the cost of hiring or buying a heavier monkey than own^d i y the Board. The followng gentlemen interviewed the Bo;ird: — Mr Colo, re proposed ford or. Sale's Eoad; tesolved, that the Board nr et and inspect the locality on Thursday, Sept. 12ta, at 11 am Messrs J. R. Gorton and Dickson, m reference to their water rafos; the Clerk was m.-tructed to look up any agreement which might have been made betwpen Mr Go. t 'n and the Board at the time of constructing the races. Mr R, Henry, Mr Skurr, and Mr J. Dohrnian, m rjference to water rates. Mr J. Gundry. who asked the Board to return his deposit money on his contract at the Main Drain, waich he had thrown up'; amplication not entertained. The correspondence was thisn read: — Prom Mr H. Smith, requesting the Board to register his leas, of land at View Hill ; resolved, to forward the lease to Mr Smith, and let him register it if he wished to do so. From the Treasury, notifying having forwarded J>77 5s sd, balance of subsidy, also 2s 6d slaughter house f .es. From the Ch_irm_n of the Caileton School Committee, requesting the Btoard to put some gravei m a hole on the road near the school g/ite. From the proprietor of the 'Oxford as» Oust Observer, "asking to be favortd with the Board's advertisements ; resolved, to divide the advertisements between the two local papers. From L :nd Registry Office, notifying the registration of Proclamation for lakng land for widening the Main Drain. From the Hospital Board, stating the amount of contribution : due from the Oxford Board was j.5. 12s. From Mr T. W. Stringer, solicitor for Mr Finlay, askiug the Board to give access to Mr Finlay's land from the Main Drain, also
in-awing th_ Board's attention to the condition of Mr Finlay's land ; the Clerk i iformcd the Bond that instructions had 'b»-e'*" given to put m two i-lip panels at place pointed out by Mr Fin' ay, and that Mr Stringer had been inforni'd th-it t c present condition of Mr Finlay's land was owing to wat r brought on to his land by his own drains, and had no connection whatever with the Main Drain; approved. Va i >us other correspondence was read and dealt with. The following tenders were accepted:— Mr B )ys, for part of Reserve at View Hill ; Mr J. H Woddridge, for clearing tussocks on Ashworth's Road. s The accounts for the month were passed, and the Board adjourned.
