SHOOTING ACCIDENT AT WAITOA.
MRS MAUNDER INJURED.
A few days agci a' shooting accident occurred at Waitoa. It seems that a resident has been greatly annoyed by dogs worrying his sheep, and so set himself the task of shooting all dogs found on his property. Mrs Maunder; who was hastening to catch a train, was walking within sight of the dog-stalker. Thinking that the moving object in the distance, partly hidden by trees, was a sheep worrier, the man fired a charge at Mrs Maunder, and the full force struck her on the side. It is stated that so far 32 pellets have been extracted, but Mrs Mauader's condition, we are happy to say, is not serious. The person who fired the charge stated that he was under a false impression, and extremly regretted the occurrence. It is recognised as a pure accident. The affair created mild excitement in the district. Mrs Maunders friends are pleased that the result of the accident will not terminate as seriously as was at first anticipated.
