THE SALVATION ARMY.

ITS SOCIAL WORK.

To-night the inhabitants ot Paeroa are to have the pleasure of hearing what we are sure will prove a very interesting lecture in the Presbyterian Church on "The social work of the Salvation Army," delivered by Colonel Birkenshaw, who is in command of the SalvaArmy forces of the North Island. The Colonel has had more than thirty years' experience of the work of the army in various lands. The "social work" is absolutely undenominational and unsectarian, and members of all the various churches are expected to be present at the lecture this evening. Mr E. W. Porritt, who had consented to be chairman, will be absent on important business, and Mr H. Poland, M.P., has kindly promised to preside. It is very seldom we have an opportunity of obtaining such reliable information upon this important subject, and we are sure a visit to the lecture to-night at eight o'clock will fully repay any inconveni-

ence one might experience in putting off other engagements. We .understand

there is no charge for admission.
