LANG BEATS LESTER.

A STRENUOUS FIGHT

INCONCLUSIVE RESUI/T,

FIGHT AWARDED TO I^ANG.

[By Electric Telegraph.]

Sydney, May 14. , t

There was a great crowd at the stadium to witness the Lang-Lester fight, which proved inconclusive.

Five torrid rounds were fought. Towards the close of the sixth, the

American, Lester, in delivering a heavy body blow, landed on the Australian's fending elbow. He was suffering pain from the blow to the hand, and was partially crippled. Lester turned his back on his opponent, and started to walk to the middle of the ring. Lang followed, preparing to deliver a blow, when the American dropped on his knee.

The referee (" Snowy " Baker) therefore disqualified Lester for dropping without receiving a blow, and proclaimed Lang the victor.

Lester showed himself to be a willing punishing fighter but wanting in skill, Lang outpointing him in every round.

A doctor examined Lester, and stated that the blow had driven the circumfex nerve near the shoulder against the bone, causing intense pain. Lester' protested that his ignorance of the rule lost the fight. He was allowed in America to do as he did. He is keen for another match.
